Let's See How Secret Of Mana Is Coming Along

The Secret of Mana remake is coming out later this year across the PC, PS4 and Vita. And as you'd expect, there was some gameplay shown off during the Tokyo Game Show.

Titled Seiken Densetsu 2 in Japan, the developers showed off some of the remake's multiplayer footage live on stage. There's no English throughout the clip, except for the HP and MP metres, so this is really only of use to Secret of Mana fans who have an idea of what's going on.

But if that's you, then good times! The remake features co-op for up to three players, like the 1993 original, and while the art style will probably still cop flak from fans, everything seems to work well enough.

I didn't grow up with a NES or SNES, so I don't have the same requisite love for classics like this that Mark, for instance, does. But the fact that it's getting remade after all this time is pretty special. It lets people like me get a taste of what the magic was like back then, albeit with the necessary tweaks to make things more playable in 2017. Or, in Secret of Mana's case, February 15 next year.

I'm not really a fan of the visual style. The 3D models are ok, it's just that the colours are too desaturated and lack the vibrancy and contrast of the SNES version.

I'm a big fan of the original but I'm not a fan of this. It looks like a mobile game, not a PS4 game. And the fact it's not coming to Switch when the original was SNES-exclusive is a pretty stupid decision too.

You can get the original on the Virtual Console and it's included on the Mini SNES. Go play it there instead of this crappy remake.

Like others have said, the visual style is not quite where I'd like it to be in some aspects but I am so excited for this. SoM was one of my gaming pillars growing up. I've played through it recently enough but a shiny new version gives me warm and fuzzy feelings all over.

    Switch trilogy port localisation squeenix!!!

I'm a huuuuge fan of Secret of Mana and I was a little bit iffy about the art style but when I saw the gameplay/art style in motion I'm sold 110%. I'll probably buy it for both my vita and my ps4.

It's cool that I can also play the original on my snes mini when it comes.

Secret of mana was my favourite snes game. Playing it with my brother multiple times when we were kids are some of my favourite memories. The gameplay loop, the characters, the story even the cool ring menu system means I'll buy every rerelease of this dang game

The look is actually starting to grow on me. All of a sudden, I'd like a remake of Breath of Fire like this.

I'm just hoping that they include things that were cut from the original.

The original game was designed and planned for the SNES CD (possibly as a launch title) - but when that fell through, they salvaged what they could. From what I read about this years ago, there was a lot of cut story content, the lack of the co-processor in the SNES CD limited the number of onscreen characters/sprites, etc.
