This Week In Games: Infinite Car Porn

Image: MvC Infinite

It's a good week if you like pretty things on a screen. The flashy effects of the Marvel vs Capcom universe are back, thanks to MvC: Infinite. And if you like lots of car porn, Project CARS 2 will have something to say.

And it doesn't stop there: Ubisoft's new multiplayer shooter drops in a couple of days, and Guild Wars 2 gets a massive expansion. Here's This Week in Games.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? The latest team-based 2D brawler in the MvC universe.
Should you care? If you're in the FGC, hell yeah. Those who aren't already fans will probably get more fun out of watching streams, until Dragon Ball Fighter Z comes out anyway.

The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch)

What is it? The latest LEGO tie-in game.
Should you care? If you have kids, maybe, otherwise probably not.

Morphite (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch, iOS, Android)

What is it? A 3D sci-fi explorer, a little in the vein of No Man's Sky.
Should you care? If you're burned by NMS, you'll want to check out the trailer first.

Project CARS 2 (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? The pinnacle of car porn, with a focus on simulation racing and an extensive career mode.
Should you care? The original pCARS was kind of like Gran Turismo for the PC, since racers with those kinds of extensive career modes haven't been around outside of Codies' games like DiRT and GRID.

The Solus Project (PS4, PSVR)

What is it? A singleplayer sci-fi survival game, and the successor to The Ball.
Should you care? I don't have a great recollection of The Ball, but The Solus Project had a good reception when it launched on Steam last year. If you really wanted No Man's Sky to be more of a hardcore survival game, this would be worth a look.

Pankapu (PS4, XBO)

What is it? A "neo retro" side-scrolling adventure that harks back to platformers from the 90's.
Should you care? Looks stunning, if nothing else.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Switch)

What is it? A Dragon Ball 3D fighter crossed with an RPG in a world that lets you fight battles from many of the series' arcs.
Should you care? The first was really good. I'm just really hoping the performance isn't garbage on the Switch.

SteamWorld Dig 2 (PC, PS4, Switch, Vita)

What is it? A 2D action-adventure game about mining and robots.
Should you care? Depends on how strongly you feel about the original.

ECHO (PC)

What is it? A third-person sci-fi puzzle adventure where the enemies evolve to your previous movements, forcing you to stay a few steps ahead.
Should you care? The setup for this is super cool; see below.

ECHO Basically Pits You Against Yourself

So imagine there's this castle. You're running through it. You're trying to survive. And finally you make it. But then the castle reboots. You have to go back to the beginning. Only this time you're faced with clones. Clones of you. And they adopt the same movements you just made.

Revolve (XBO)

What is it? A physics-based puzzle platformer where you switch gravity, jump, brake or boost your speed to escape a dystopian world.
Should you care? It's only $10, so if you need a funky looking puzzler this could be worth a shot.

ATOMEGA (PC)

What is it? A multiplayer shooter from the makers of Grow Home, where you collect cubes to evolve into stronger forms.
Should you care? Absolutely no idea. I'd wait to see what the reception is first.

The Caribbean Sail (PC)

What is it? An 8-bit RPG adventure about crossing the Atlantic, inspired by Oregon Trail.
Should you care? Not sure how long the legs for this are, but I'm intrigued nonetheless.

Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire (PC)

What is it? The second expansion pack for the long-running MMO.
Should you care? If you ever played Guild Wars 2 and liked it, major expansions are always a good time to check back in.

Raiders of the Broken Planet (PS4, XBO)

What is it? An asymmetric online adventure game from the makers of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.
Should you care? Watch some footage first and see how the servers hold up.

Pokken Tournament DX (Switch)

What is it? A third-person 3D fighter involving Pikachu and all your favourites.
Should you care? I really want this to be huge so I have justification for buying it, but the scene died out relatively quickly. Not sure if the Switch will revitalise it or not.

Thimbleweed Park (Switch)

What is it? A point-and-click adventure from Ron Gilbert.
Should you care? Enjoyed Monkey Island? Then you probably should.

There's a lot more out this week, so let me know if I've missed anything major below and I'll add it in. Are you picking up anything new?

Comments

I'm keen for SteamWorld Dig 2 - the first got its hooks in me deep, and I'm hoping the same might happen again

Any word on how Project Cars 2 plays with a controller? I'm not serious enough about racing games to buy a wheel, but might be tempted to give it a shot at some point if it plays ok on a controller.

I'm interested in how it goes in VR with a wheel.
Though to be honest, I'm thinking of selling both the Oculus and the wheel, as it doesn't get much use.

Hey, I played a lot of the first game with a controller and it was good. The game had some pretty serious bugs (including some related to controller inputs) but a dry race with the controller was a good experience, subject to the level of assists you had enabled.

By all accounts they've improved the controls a lot for number 2. I have a wheel, but setting it up is a bit of a logistical nightmare for me, so I tend to just go the controller option.

My copy of Samus Returns in on the way, now to play zero mission etc before it arrives.

Awesome game, my left thumb has never been in more pain though. I don't think I've ever had such extended gaming sessions on the 3DS to realise how bad the Analog Stick placement is.

    MAHVEL BABY.

Roster and graphics dissapointments aside, all of the preview footage I've seen likes really fun so I'm definitely on board.

Still got no clue what team I'll be going with, as Dante is my only main from mvc3 that has returned.

    Thinking Dante/Haggar or Dante/Frank West.

Thankfully I live in WA so it unlocks at 10pm for me so I can get some game time in tonight.

    Also out this week:

    Burly Men at Sea (PS4/Vita)
    Pankapu (PC)
    Terra Battle 2 (PC/iOS/Android)
    Thimbleweed Park (Switch)
    Mary Skelter: Nightmares (Vita)
