A Game Where No One Tells You Not To Play With Your Food

A Game Where No One Tells You Not To Play With Your Food

Nour is an art game about the beauty of food and playing with what you eat. With a few slaps of the keyboard, a ramen bowl gets packed with noodles while boba balls leap into tea cups. It’s silly but gorgeous.

Made by TJ Hughes AKA Terrifying Jellyfish, Nour seeks to capture the mood and aesthetics of food. Nour knows that a proper bowl of ramen can be a thing of beauty. In the alpha build I previewed, multiple scenes showcased how fun it is to craft gorgeous meals or to just chuck everything into a sloppy mess. Nour is compatible with the Midi Fighter controller, but I just used my keyboard. Tapping at various keys led to captivating scenes; bread launched from toasters and popcorn kernels burst into wonderful puffs.

I’m not really into boba that much and this looks awesome.

There’s not much in game yet, but the experience is playful and makes me think of both master chefs hard at work and young children mashing their plates of potatoes and peas. The prospect of additional scenes is exciting; with its beautiful combination of music and food, Nour is a lot of fun.

Terrfying Jellyfish is currently running a Kickstarter for the game, which concludes at the end of the month. It will be available on PC and Mac.
