For years, Brian Michael Bendis has been one of the biggest and best-known writers of Marvel Comics. The author helped create Miles Morales and Jessica Jones and has spent years writing them and other iconic Marvel characters such as Iron Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Daredevil. And now he’s jumped ship to DC.

The shock move was confirmed this morning in a statement issued to DC Comics’ Twitter, confirming not just that Bendis was now writing for the publisher, but had also signed an exclusivity deal with DC, effectively terminating Bendis’ ongoing and involved relationship with Marvel.

The writer followed up with his own brief statement, promising more details about just what he’ll be working on at DC will be coming soon.
This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy. I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come! Stay tuned! https://t.co/S1x5JDmGTt

As for Marvel itself, a brief statement was issued to press today following the news:
Brian is a great partner and has contributed incredible stories and characters to the Marvel Universe over the years. We appreciate his creativity and professionalism, and we wish him the best on his future projects.
Bendis has written for DC once in the past – contributing a Batman story to the 2007 collection Batman: The Greatest Stories Ever Told, Volume 2 – but this is arguably less about Bendis getting the opportunity to work with a whole universe of characters he’s never worked with before, and more about Marvel losing one of its biggest and most important writers.
Although critical reaction to Bendis’ work has had swings – he was the writer behind the recent, miserable crossover event Civil War II – Bendis is a crucial writer behind several major books at Marvel at the moment, including Spider-Man, Invincible Iron Man (where he created and shepherded in Riri Williams, the young black MIT student currently standing in for Tony Stark as the Iron Avenger), The Defenders, and Jessica Jones. Losing him totally for the foreseeable future is a pretty profound blow to Marvel Comics.
We’ll bring you more about Bendis’ future at DC as we learn it.

Hopefully he does a better job over at DC then at his last 10 years at Marvel.
After the way he Destroyed Cap and Carol, all I can say is “Bye Bendis, don’t let the door hit you and please stay the hell away from Diana!”
To be fair he couldn’t really do any worse than most of the writers who have tackled her in the past! His non superhero stuff is fantastic but the big 2 r where the money is at i guess
Nooooooooooooooooo send him back, the guy has like one story in the last five years that doesn’t suck a big ol’ bag of dicks. Watch as DC announce an event written by Bendis that features a disposable character that is made out to be super important that then disappears and random character deaths.
I still can’t believe marvel let him bring back all the old xmen to just fester in this time line what a strange decision
Never thought I’d see the day. He’s gone on record before as being a “Marvel guy”, at least partly because Marvel was the reason he has a mainstream comics career. I wonder if there’s any tension in Marvel behind the scenes contributing to this?
