Everyone needs a vacation sometime — especially monsters who make their living working in the hospitality industry. Though you wouldn’t necessarily expect a group of vampires and other ghouls to hop on a cruise ship, that’s exactly what happens in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.
Yes. There is a third Hotel Transylvania coming out in 2018, which only sounds incredible until you look at the numbers. The first two films, released in 2012 and 2015, had openings that raked in over $US40 million, then went on to gross around $US150 million in the US, and around $US400 million internationally.
That, my friends, is a hit franchise. Here’s the trailer for part three. (Note it’s the international trailer, which reveals a slightly different subtitle: A Monster Vacation.)
If we wanted, we could go scene by scene through the trailer, questioning all the weird, stupid stuff in there. But obviously we are not the audience for this franchise. That audience loves hearing Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, and the rest of the cast voice these goofy characters as well as the idea of iconic monsters running a hotel. And now, they’re going to someone else’s hotel. On the water. On vacation. Oh man.
Once again directed by Samurai Jack mastermind Genndy Tartakovsky, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation opens July 13, 2018.
