It’s nice to know that no matter the genre, there’s a Warhammer 40,000 to match your tastes. Dating sims and 4X were the exceptions until now. No, you won’t be marrying off Blood Angles and genestealers, but you will be able to explore, expand, exploit and exterminate once Warhammer 40,000: Gladius arrives “soon”.
I’m not sure the Warhammer 40,000 universe was begging for a Civilization-style title, but I’d definitely be willing to give it a shot.
According to the announcement of the game’s Steam page, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius — Relics of War (yes, that’s the full name), with combine a “brand new, deep storyline” with “elements of 4X gameplay with a combat-focused system”.
Set on the archaeologically-interesting planet of Gladius Prime, four factions including Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Orks and Necrons will research, mine and battle for supremacy. You can go it alone, with each side coming with its own campaign, or try out multiplayer where cooperative play is supported.
Proxy Studios is in the developer seat, with a title called Pandora being the company’s previous 4X effort. Publishing duties are via Slitherine, which isn’t a massive surprise.
Otherwise, hard details are a thin on the ground, though you might find a few scraps in the announcement trailer.
