Fine Art: Designing A Fighting Game’s Roster

Brawlhalla is a cool lil’ fighting game, and today in Fine Art we’re taking a look behind the scenes at some of its character design.

Vince Medellin was production designer early on in the game’s development, where he worked alongside Dave Montes on the game’s cast, as well as their skins.

What’s interesting about Brawlhalla’s design vs, say, Street Fighter‘s is that every single skin had to fit a “universal rig” (above) that every character was based on, meaning Medellin had to make sure that everything from tigers to pirates could still work on the one model.

I’ve showcased a range of Medellin’s work on the game below, but you can see more at his personal site.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists, showcasing the best of both their professional and personal portfolios.
