Legendary Detective Dick Tracy Is Returning To Comics

For decades, Chester Gould’s hardboiled, gadget-wielding ace detective has cracked cases in newspaper strips and comics, and on the big screen and TV. But now he’s making a grand return to the page courtesy of Archie Comics.

Written by Archie Comics co-president and crime novelist Alex Segura and Michael Moreci, with art by Thomas Pitilli, the series will cast back to Tracy’s early career as a detective, rebooting the character’s origins to tell new stories about his formative years.

Further details about the series are currently being kept under wraps, but it’s cool to see one of the legendary pulp heroes of early comics make a grand return like this. Spy-fi and pulp comics have had a bit of a resurgence lately, between Dynamite’s ongoing Bond series, and the rise of pulpy crossovers such as Batman meeting up with The Shadow and even Tracy himself teaming up with The Spirit, so it makes sense to bring another of its most famous icons back right now. Dick Tracy‘s first issue will be released on 11 April 2018.
