The Nintendo Switch’s #1 Download For 2017 Was Stardew Valley

I don’t think anyone doubted ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley would do well on the Switch. Heck, it smashed the top 10 the month it was released. With 2017 behind us, we can now tell whether its success on Nintendo’s console was a splash in the ocean or, well, the ocean itself.

Going by Nintendo’s latest stats, hooley dooley, it was the latter. We’re talking Waterworld proportions, minus the Costner. And box office bombing, obviously.

In some ways, it’s not surprising — the moment you’re exposed to Stardew Valley, it’s hard not to see “PUT ME ON A NINTENDO CONSOLE ASAP” written all over it. On the other hand, the darn thing only came out in October.

To put this into perspective, in just three months it beat out Minecraft, Rocket League and Sonic Mania. It’s difficult to say how many more sales it made compared to these games, but to hit the #1 spot, I’m guessing it’s more than a few wheelbarrow loads.

If you’d like to see the top 30 for yourself, which includes such titles as Graceful Explosion Machine and Mighty Gun Volt Burst it’s available directly from Nintendo’s website.
