What Movies Are You Most Looking Forward To In 2018?

There is plenty to look forward to in games, but for this week's Off Topic we're going to have a chat about the world of film instead.

So, 2018. What are you most looking forward to on the silver screen?

I'm a bit of a Harry Potter fan, so despite everything surrounding Johnny Depp right now I'm still looking forward to what happens to the franchise. Eddie Redmayne did a cracking job in the original - Harry Potter wouldn't feel right without that British touch - and I'm interested to see how they flesh the American wizarding world a little more.

Beyond the world of magic, we've got Aquaman and Black Panther on the superhero front. Maze Runner could be fun - I really need to see the original - and the film adaptation of Annihilation could be a lot of fun as well.

Also, the trailer for Game Night looks weirdly entertaining.

What movies are you looking forward to in 2018?

I honestly believe Eddie Redmayne is hot garbage in FBAWTFT

    Black Panther. Obiviously.

from your username the obvious assumption would be the Han Solo movie.

I heard its being pushed back. Kinda keeping expectations low. But if the trend is anything to go by the standalone movies are going to be awesome!

There's an Avengers film this year. This is the one that matters most to me.

Mazerunner Deathcure... cmon its been too long of a wait already (i dont even care that its different to the books)

Fantastic Beasts, Isle of Dogs, Pacific Rim: Uprising, The God Particle, The Outsider, Solo, Wreck-It Ralph 2, off the top of my head.

    I couldn't think of too many off the top of my head aside from the massive tentpoles, but a quick look on trusty Google, and my list has increased roughly tenfold;

    Black Panther
    Avengers Infinity War
    Deadpool 2
    Solo: A Star Wars Story0
    Incredibles 2
    Pacific Rim: Uprising
Xmen: Dark Phoenix (loved the TAS episodes of this storyline as a kid)
    Ralph Breaks The Internet
    Sicario 2: Soldado

    The Predator
    Alita: Battle Angel
    Mortal Engines
    The Purge: The Island
    Transformers: Bumblebee

Mortal Engines intrigues me. Could be wonderful, but very well could be awful! Hugo Weaving will be great, either way.

Also looking forward to Avengers: Infinity War. I wasn't a huge comic book reader when I was young, but The Infinity Gauntlet is one I did read and I loved it.

    Ready Player One and Solo

    The Shape of Water
    Isle of Dogs
    Incredibles 2

That's about it right now. I'm sure plenty of other good ones will come along throughout the year, but in mid-January, that's all I've got.

Probably Deadpool 2 and Predator. That said, the movies I usually end up enjoying the most aren't even on my radar until they're out.

Good example of that last year would have been Blade Runner 2049.

    Black Panther
    Ready Player One
    Avengers 3
    Pacific Rim: Uprising

The movie i'm most looking forward to is Deathstranding.

Phantom Thread, The Shape Of Water and Isle Of Dogs.

I really couldn't care less about Avengers, Black Panther or any other superhero films. I keep going to them thinking maybe I might enjoy THIS one but nope, same garbage plot regurgitated ad infinitum.

I look forward to staying at home and forgetting to get around to seeing any of them.

    Disaster Artist
    The Shape of Water
    Isle of Dogs

Annihilation. Though I likely won't see it for a few years.

All I want is a new David Lynch feature film. It’s not gonna happen but I can dream. Or a new Tom Ford movie. Nocturnal Animals was amazing.
I’m pretty keen to see Disaster Artist.

What I don’t want is a cavalcade of superhero/explosion porn movies. They are cynical, lazy and dull. I don’t know why people flock to this shit. It’s stale.
Fanatics and fanboys keep this trend going because they’ll buy anything that is related to a franchise, whether it’s good or bad. Star Wars.

We flock to it because we enjoy it perhaps?
