Though Buffy the Vampire Slayer hasn’t been on television for almost 15 years, the Scooby Gang’s still been fighting the good fight in the comic book world. It’s been a hot second since Buffy creator Joss Whedon penned a vamp-centric comic himself, but he’s coming back for the upcoming Season 12: The Reckoning from Dark Horse.

CBR revealed today that this June, Whedon and Christos Gage will be co-writing the series, and Georges Jeanty also be coming back to provide the art. The last time Whedon wrote an arc for the series was during season nine. The new story will find Buffy, Willow and Xander dealing with the villainous Harth, a vampire from a dystopian future who threatens to upend their own reality. Harth’s arrival also pulls Melaka Fray, the future slayer first introduced in her own solo comic back in 2001, back into the mix of things, along with a number of other characters from the Buffyverse such as Angel and the former god-king Illyria.
From the sound of it, The Reckoning will pull basically all of the heavy hitters in Buffy’s orbit back into the fray, but just what that means about the direction the Buffy series is going remains to be seen. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning #1 hits stores June 20.

I wish I was more excited about this, but I couldn’t digest the Season 8 comic (I still groan when I watch some episodes of the televised 7th season). Goodbye, Scoobies. You never truely made it past Season 6 for me.
I ended up changing focus to Angel about then.
Still saw out the end of Buffy, but wasn’t as attached as I was before.
I’m not sure I finished Angel either, if I did I can’t remember the end of the follow-up season/comic. I remember enjoying it more than Buffy, but honestly, season 5 of Angel ended on such a great note that it’s hard to not hold the story and characters in high esteem. ^^
Season 8 was… bad. Just bad.
Season 9 was better, they seemed to stop trying to randomly go bigger just because they could (because we can draw whatever we want!) and stuck to the things that made the show great.
Although I did only make it halfway through season 10…
Although.. ***SPOILER BELOW FOR SEASON 9 BUFFY***
I’m kinda disappointed to see Illyria back. She had a good death.
I’ve loved the past 4 seasons. 8 went a little crazy, but it eventually found itself to be closer to the show. And i can’t believe were finally at the end with this final season. 4 issues doesn’t seem enough to end Buffy’s story.
