This Weekend In Speedrunning

Every week, countless speedrunners hit the go fast button in their game of choice and broadcast it to the world on sites. Here’s a quick look at some of the events happening this weekend where people hit the go fast button.

ESA Winter

Not to be confused with the space agency with the same initials, ESA Winter is a speedrunning marathon that’s raising money for Save the Children. Featuring a cast of European speedrunners and rebroadcast in French and Russian, ESA Winter is a comfy marathon that’s reminiscent of earlier Games Done Quicks.

ESA Winter will run until early Sunday morning. You can view the full schedule here.

No Glitches Allowed

When the topic of speedrunning if broached, it’s all too common for people to complain about the use of glitches. If you’re one of those people — or are just interested in seeing a different side of speedrunning — the No Glitches Allowed marathon is for you.

The schedule for this marathon is packed full of speedruns in either glitchless or “no major glitches” categories to highlight a lesser seen side of speedrunning.

Speed Gaming Tournaments

Marathons aren’t the only type of events that happen in the speedrunning world. Over on the Speedgaming group of Twitch channels there are endless tournaments taking place where speedrunners go head to head to see who can hit the go fast button the best. These tournaments are another way to enjoy speedgames that rewards consistent play instead of constantly restarting runs to try and climb up the Speedrun.com leaderboards.

With commentated tournaments for A Link To The Past Randomiser, Ori and the Blind Forest, Super Mario Sunshine and many, many other games, you’re bound to see something that catches your interest. A full schedule of this weekend’s events can be seen on the Speedgaming website.

Not interested in any of these events? Well, you can always just check out Twitch.tv’s Speedrunning community to see what else is going on.
