HTC Drops Vive Price, Oh And There’s A Vive Pro Now

HTC are introducing a new Vive Pro headset for $1199 that promises the latest and greatest in VR visuals and comfort.

Or you could not because HTC has also dropped the price on the full kit of the current Vive, which seems like a much better deal.

The new HTC Vive Pro Head Mounted Display sports an OLED display with combined resolution of 2800 x 1600, 78 per cent over the current model.

HTC has also reworked the headstrap to re-balance the weight of the unit so that its more comfortable.

Preorders for the $1199 headset have already sold out and will start shipping on April 5.

More importantly, the current model HTC Vive kit is only $879. A price reduction of $120. Unlike the Vive Pro, the Vive comes with two base stations and two wireless controllers as well as the headset so it has everything you need to get started.

“By lowering the price of the current Vive, we are making VR more accessible while expanding the potential market for developers. Whether you’re a VR enthusiast or new to the platform, there’s never been a better time to join the most complete VR platform available,” said Daniel O’Brien, HTC Vive General Manager.

Both the Vive and the Vive Pro comes with a trial subscription to Viveport which gives uses access to five free VR titles each month.
