Next week the latest saga, at least tangentially, in the MechWarrior universe continues with the release of BattleTech. But MechWarrior games have come a long way since the original was released all the way back in 1989.

YouTuber Cussan has put together a neat little montage of every titled MechWarrior game, so there’s no other mecha inclusions like the Heavy Gear games, Starsiege or Monolith’s quirky anime shooter, Shogo.

But people who adored MechWarrior for the finer details of mech combat, and want the real-time element that Mechwarrior 5 promises, don’t mind. So for those people, here’s a quick look back at how far the MechWarrior games have come.

Just to round it all off, here’s some footage from Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries. The game was originally scheduled for release late this year, although it’s still very much a work in progress.
