What The God Of War Special Edition’s Runes Say

The steelbook edition of God of War has a short blurb on the backcover written in Elder Futhark runes. Like Kratos, my runic reading skills are a little bit rusty. Thankfully a Redditor has transliterated the runes.

Redditor /u/Wolfstrong1995 has taken the time to transliterate the Nordic runes from the back of God of War’s steelbook edition into English. Unsurprisingly, they reveal a simple, poetic and spoiler-free description of the game.

This is the story of a bear and a wolf, who wandered the realms nine to fulfill a promise of one before; they walk the twilight path, destined to discower (discover) the truth that is to come.

I’ve already been mentally calling Kratos “Papa Bear” so this is perfect.

You can check their homework against Wikipedia if you want to see what the runes say for yourself.

In case you’re wondering, the blurb on the back of the standard edition is far less interesting:

Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods – Kratos, together with his son Atreus, must venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfil a deeply personal quest.
