Nintendo just announced a new official charging stand for the Switch that “makes playing in Tabletop mode easier than ever”.
The charging solutions that shipped with the console at launch were pretty limited in this regard as the dock blocked access to the screen, while using a cable and the kickstand at the same time was impossible due to the former’s location at the bottom of the Switch.
This new curved stand – whose angle can be adjusted – takes care of that, letting you thread a USB cable through it to charge your Switch while also having it propped up in a position people can see it across a table.
It’s out July 13 for $US20. Australian pricing has not yet been announced, but converted it’s about $27.

Makes you wonder why something like this wasn’t available at launch. Surely they realised that you couldn’t play in TT mode and charge at the same time?
It doesn’t look like that from the images in the article. It looks like you simply plug a cable into the female USB-C port on the dock, which is electrically connected to the male USB-C connector that plugs into the Switch. No need to thread cables through a piece of plastic or bend them in ways that will shorten their lifespan.
Fairly crap if you still have to buy a charging cable to go with it…. what’s that? About $60 to play TT mode while charging?
Ugh how can you treat the ones who love you so badly Nintendo?
Too bad it doesn’t add extra USB ports, or even a HDMI-out. And is damn expensive for a basically a USB elbow joint.
Having the kickstand in the middle will make domestic flights with Virgin much better with the storage spot at head height
