Teenagers Love The Hot New Game Fork Knife

If you've heard a young person talking about "fork knife" in the past few days, they not talking about their finishing school curriculum. They're talking about Fortnite.

Fork Knife has been slang for Fortnite for a couple of months, but it didn't truly catch on until April 29th, when Twitter user Kung Fu Renny posted this truly iconic tweet:

Since then, if you search "fork knife" on Twitter, all you see are people making their own jokes about the game, and some people just plain old calling Fortnite "fork knife."

Kotaku's own Luke Plunkett has even said that he "hasn't said Fortnite out loud in days. Just Fork Knife now." It's gotten to the point where one person has claimed to have overheard a mum trying to buy Fork Knife at GameStop:

When I first saw this tweet, I was like "uh huh yeah sure that totally happened." But then I went to Google and typed in "fork knife" and the top result looked like the aftermath of hundreds of confused parents trying to understand their children.

The results are similar at YouTube, where dozens of players in the last few days have uploaded Fortnite videos with "fork knife" in the title.

At this point, Epic should maybe think about changing the name of their game. Never doubt the power of the youths - they're just plain funnier than you.

No, they just have no concept of how ridiculous they appear when they do this shit. They think people are laughing WITH them... it's a side-effect of being egocentric at that age (which wears off a bit with age and perspective... for most people anyway).

Maybe I'm just old and grumpy but yeah, I don't find any of these posts (in the article) funny.

It's a great privilege being old and grumpy. It generally means you survived being young and stupid :-)

Yeah, these aren't funny but I guess they're relatable to the kids.

The funny is in the second generational memes where someone from Imgur makes some pictures where there's a cute dog barking at a knife.

Then this other cute dog is looking at it in funny cute way.

And then the first dog is like, "What, Im playing borknife"

I guess that's not that funny either, it's just everything is better with dogs.

Yeah they're more cliquey than others for sure. Funnier? seems a bit subjective to me.

I can imagine you know sitting on your porch yelling "BACK IN MY DAY......"

I play fork knife whenever I incorrectly predict I won't need to cut up the meal I'm about to eat...

Ah, I see you've played knifey spooney before!

Presumably a lot of this is down to the word "fortnight" being virtually unknown in the US.

Or their obsession with spelling things phonetically.

I'm sure it did come from someone mishearing the game's name. My point is that if you've never heard the word "fortnight", then "fork knife" isn't as big a stretch.

When I first saw this tweet, I was like "uh huh yeah sure that totally happened." But then I went to Google and typed in "fork knife"....The results are similar at (sic) YouTube

Wow...a literal description of the amount of thought that went into this article. Appreciate the honesty though I suppose.

Its interesting that some of the language use in the photos have been published - some double standards
