This Week In Games: Classics All Around

We’re only a few weeks away from E3, which means it’s time for the indies and smaller tier titles to shine. This week’s a bit retro: there’s the return of some SEGA Mega Drive favourites in a new collection, a bundle with 12 Street Fighter games (four of which have online play), the Switch gets Ikaruga and a new Metroidvania to dive into.

Note that some games below might be coming out on more platforms than is available in Australia, and some games may already be available on other platforms already. But as for (the bulk of) what’s fresh this week, here’s the list:

  • Yoku’s Island Express (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • SEGA Mega Drive Classics (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Moonlighter (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition (PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition (XBO)
  • Earth Atlantis (PS4, XBO)
  • Old Man’s Journey (PS4)
  • Die for Valhalla! Special Edition (PS4)
  • Kabounce (PC, PS4)
  • Shift Quantum (PC, PS4, Switch)
  • TO THE TOP (PSVR)
  • Legend of Kay: Anniversary (Switch)
  • Ikaruga (Switch)
  • Lost Sea (Switch)
  • Yesterday Origins (Switch)
  • Smoke and Sacrifice (Switch)
  • Quad Fighter K (Switch)
  • Defoliation (Switch)
  • Milanoir (PC, Switch)
  • West of Loathing (Switch)
  • Operation Hardcore (Switch)
  • ICEY (Switch)
  • Agony (PC, PS4)

Right, let’s dive into the deeper info. First: Ikaruga on the Switch.

Here’s the trailer for Milanoir. It’s a pixel-action game set in Milan (hence the name) with local co-op. It’s dropping on PS4 and the Switch as well, but neither game was listed on their requisite Australian stores when I checked this morning.

If you’re wondering how the tournament mode in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection works, Nintendo’s official YouTube channel put out a video Saturday local time showing it off.

Moonlighter is a game about a shopkeeper who wants to be an RPG hero. It’s got a neat look: most of the action sequences are in the last 30 seconds.

Last but not least, a side-scrolling underwater shooter that has almost a sepia tone. Here’s Earth Atlantis:
