This Week In Games: Return Of The Tempest

We’re still in the midst of July, but there’s still the odd interesting title in the woodwork. Sonic Mania Plus drops this week, and it’s accompanied by the colourful Tempest 4000. Along with those, qrth-phyl appears once again – fans of indies on Xbox 360 might remember that one.

Adventure Time: Pirates of Enchiridion hits all platforms, and the Mega Man Legacy X Collection finds a new home. And as an extra bonus: Hand of Fate 2 hits the Switch, along with some other intriguing indies. Here’s this week in games.

  • Mega Man Legacy X Collection 1/2 (PS4)
  • Tempest 4000 (PC)
  • Gotcha Racing 2nd (PC)

  • The Miskatonic (PC)

Let’s start things off with Tempest 4000. It actually went live on PSN accidentally a few months ago, allowing some users to buy and download the game. It’s officially releasing tomorrow: here’s over 10 minutes of gameplay.

Something a bit different: Beyond Tokyo. It’s a VR experience for the Vive that takes people through Shibuya, Harajuku, an izakaya restaurant, and so on. It’s an educational tourist trip, essentially.

The Miskatonic is an adventure about an occult school in North America. It’s leaning on that Lovecraft-inspired dark comedy, and the art style isn’t bad either.

Here’s a bit of footage from the Adventure Time game coming out this week. Maybe it’s just me, but the animations look a little … stiff in places?

And of course, the Sonic Mania Plus trailer:

Frost is a deckbuilding game about surviving the cold. It’s got a great aesthetic:

Last but not least, Earthfall. It’s getting a retail release this week, although it did drop digitally a few days ago. It’s a co-op shooter, a little like Left 4 Dead but with aliens.

So that’s the bulk of what’s new this week. Anything stick out to you?
