You’ve got to give the id Software of old credit — it takes a certain level of genius to hide a secret so well that even with mod tools, source code and over 20 years of time, people still couldn’t figure out how to trigger it. Until now, that is. Doom 2‘s infamous MAP15, also known as “Industrial Zone”, has finally been 100 per cent completed.
It’s important to note that we’ve known about the secret for a long time. The problem was no one knew how to trigger it without cheating, which meant maxing out at 90 per cent completion through normal play.
Speedrunner Zero Master managed to figure it out last week, recording a video of his efforts to save us the trouble of playing ourselves.
So difficult was the secret to find and trigger, even John Romero was impressed.
CONGRATS, Zero Master! Finally, after 24 years! “To win the game you must get 100% on level 15 by John Romero.” Great trick getting to that secret! https://t.co/Im9BSP5Eyh #doom

Romero also posted a follow-up tweet explaining the mechanics of the secret.
Secret explained: A secret teleporter is marked as a discoverable “secret”, but when you touch it, you never enter the sector. So you would never get inside the teleporter sector to trigger the secret. The only way to trigger this secret is to be pushed by an enemy into it! #doom

Very clever. So clever, in fact, it took decades for someone to figure it out.
