Witcher-Gwent RPG Thronebreaker Launches October 23

Announced in late August, Thronebreaker is a single-player RPG set in the Witcher world where combat is resolved through Gwent. It’s coming out next month.

Thronebreaker was originally slated to be an expansion for Gwent, but was later split off into a standalone project. “Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics,” the official description reads.

CD Projekt announced over Facebook that the game would launch through GOG on October 23, with PS4 and Xbox One users getting the game on December 4.

The official GOG listing doesn’t have any gameplay screens — although you can expect some crossover with Gwent, since that’s what it’s based on — but there are some moody shots from what look like cutscenes.

Thronebreaker will have approximately 30 hours of content, according to CD Projekt during their half-year financial results. Pricing will be released in “the near future”.
