This Week In Games: Watercolour Assassins

A surprisingly jam packed week to kick off November. Hitman 2 is probably the biggest name out of everything this week, but there's also a ton of intriguing indies. Case in point: the wonderfully watercolour 11-11: Memories Retold, a story about a photographer in World War 1.

There's a ton of stuff that's well worth a look this week. Tetris Effect drops on the PS4, there's a new FMV game in The Shapeshifting Detective, and the chibi World of Final Fantasy gets a re-release of sorts this week. Rollcage fans will have GRIP to play with too, and there's another Leisure Suit Larry game.

Small note: if you don't want to pay extra for the deluxe editions, HITMAN 2 will drop next week. (Next week is also Fallout 76, Pokemon and the Black Friday madness, though.)

Here's the headliners this week:

  • World of Final Fantasy Maxima (Switch, XBO)
  • OVERKILL's The Walking Dead (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • 11-11: Memories Retold (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • Moonlighter (PS4, Switch)
  • Rogue Legacy (Switch)
  • Carnival Games (PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Full Metal Furies (Switch)
  • Brawlhalla (Switch)
  • The Shapeshifting Detective (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Johnny Turbo's Arcade: Break Thru (Switch)
  • Syberia 1 & 2 (Switch)
  • Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Switch)
  • Varion (PC, Switch)
  • HITMAN 2 (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • Steel Rats (PS4)
  • GRIP (PC, PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Tetris Effect (PSVR, PS4)
  • Forgotton Anne (Switch)
  • MechaNika (Switch)
  • Battlezone Gold Edition (Switch)
  • Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix (Switch)
  • Sky Force Anniversary (Switch)
  • Minecraft Season Two: Story Mode (Switch)
  • Noir Chronicles: City of Crime (Switch)
  • DERU: The Art of Cooperation (PC, Switch)
  • NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (Switch)
  • 8 To Glory (PS4)
  • Mutant Football League Dynasty Edition (PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Die (PC)
  • Spitkiss (PC)

Seriously, bugger me. Let's get through the trailers and gameplay footage, starting with Leisure Suit Larry.

The Shapeshifting Detective looks pretty campy, which could be good fun with friends. Tetris Effect should be a must-have for anyone with PSVR - that game has looked fantastic from the off, and I've heard nothing but good things from everyone who's touched it.

Memories Retold is interesting but I'm literally only hearing about it today for the first time. And I imagine some Left 4 Dead fans will jump on the The Walking Dead eventually, so we'll get word quickly on how that's shaped up.

It's such a ridiculously packed week. The eShop has significantly more out this week than Steam, which really only highlights just how much the eShop needs a UI overhaul. It's becoming too unwieldy to navigate the flood of games.

Anyway, what looks good to you this week?

I played sooooo much of the Tetris Effect demo over the weekend, today it was a must preorder for me. Loved it in PSVR and standard play too. Also looking forward to OVERKILL's The Walking Dead but I haven't heard anything from it and doubt it will be released tomorrow. Hope its good

Super keen for 11-11 Memories Retold. Looks really interesting.

I believe this is being made by the studio that made Valiant Hearts, or at least a lot of those team members.

Tetris Effect for me. Actually preordered it (unheard of!) after playing the demo over the weekend. Stellar.

Seeing mutant league football pop up reminded me of one of the few mega drive games I had. I looked it up, and lo and behold it was the original.

Loved that game, despite knowing nothing about NFL, and apparently this reboot is as good/still holds up!

I was also a huge fan of speedball (and all of the bitmap brothers games on the amiga).

So here I am, suddenly about to buy a NFL game on the switch.

Looking forward to Grip. Really enjoyed the PS1 game.
