P.T. is one of the strangest video games to have ever been created, not simply because it was an excellent short-form horror/puzzle game on PlayStation 4, but because the original game has been virtually scrubbed from the internet and has been unavailable to download for years.
Despite this, P.T. has garnered a cult following, and independent video game creator RadiusGorde recently released a faithful recreation of the game — called Unreal PT — for free.
You can get Unreal PT by clicking the Download link on its Itch.io page. Once the file is downloaded, simply unzip the folder and run the PT_2.exe.
While the game was crafted using the Unreal 4 engine (hence the name “Unreal PT”), you won’t need a super-powerful PC or laptop in order to play it. The lowest minimum specs the game has been tested on are:

That’s fairly standard for lower-end PCs. For those having trouble getting the game to run smoothly, turning off the HQ SSR setting and dropping the in-game resolution to help hit a standard 30fps.
A quick word of warning, however: Unreal PT’s VR mode is currently busted, though the developer is working on a solution. That said, if you have a VR headset plugged in at all when launching Unreal PT, the game will load VR mode by default, so make sure your Vive or Oculus Rift is entirely disconnected before playing.
In the meantime, the non-VR mode is entirely playable, and we can confirm its still as sufficiently unsettling as the original was.
For those unfamiliar, P.T. was originally intended to be a short teaser demo (or “Playable Trailer,” get it?) for a now-canceled game called Silent Hills from Konami, which was at the time a planned reboot of the studio’s Silent Hill survival horror franchise. This was also going to be a collaborative effort from the creator and director of the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid video game series, Hideo Kojima, the film director Guillermo del Toro, and actor Norman Reedus.
Despite being an short experience, the original P.T. was chock-full of strange puzzles and easter eggs, and the internet was abuzz with players swapping theories and discoveries in the days following its release. Unfortunately, Silent Hills was ultimately canceled by Konami after the company fired Kojima and began shifting its business away from video games.
While the trio of Kojima, del Toro, and Reedus has since reconvened and are currently working on the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, Death Stranding, P.T. was unceremoniously removed from the PlayStation store by Konami following Silent Hills’ cancelation. The only way to play the original P.T. is on a PlayStation 4 console that already has the game downloaded and installed on it. These are in such high demand that you can find them going for as much as $2,504 on eBay.
Thankfully, though, this fan recreation means we can once again explore the haunted hallways of this strange (but very much not empty) house once again.
