Left 4 Dead Makers Are Back With A New Zombie Game

The Left 4 Dead games are still some of the most unique zombie co-op shooters ever released. And yet, it's been a decade since a censored version of Left 4 Dead 2 hit Australian shores.

But while a third Left 4 Dead game isn't officially on the cards, Warner Bros. today announced what is possibly might be the next best thing: a new co-op zombie shooter from the makers of the original Left 4 Dead.

In a release on the Turtle Rock site, the two studios announced that Back 4 Blood was being designed as a premium AAA co-op zombie shooter, one that aimed to add "new features" and modern technology into the spirit and style of co-op shooters like Left 4 Dead.

"We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains," Turtle Rock Studios design director and co-founder Chris Ashton said.

The official FAQ notes that Back 4 Blood is launching on PC, PS4 and Xbox One first - although a future Switch release isn't being ruled out - and that it'll feature both PVP and a campaign mode. "You’ll be able to shoot up a lot of zombies like in Left 4 Dead, but there’s a whole lot of new stuff in Back 4 Blood which makes it unique," it adds.

There's no screenshots or footage of Back 4 Blood yet, however. So instead, let's reminisce over some Left 4 Dead gameplay.

I miss Left 4 Dead.

Oh, this is exiting news. Loved L4D2. I imported my uncensored, blood and guts copy back in the day.

I'd be excited for this if most of my old L4D buddies didn't disappear over the years :(

"We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains,"They say that but those 10 years haven't exactly been filled with success stories. Evolve fizzled out and their work with Perfect World Entertainment resulted in them going their separate ways. They also did some VR work but it doesn't sound like it really took off that well.

Maybe it will just be a case of returning to your roots and doing what you do best but I'm skeptical that they might have lost their way over the years.

Ooh! This sounds like good news!

My inner cynic is screaming at me that this is code for predatory microtransactions, increased social/always-online focus, and fad-chasing stream-bait design decisions.

I'd like to play this, and lots of other new MP games, but they almost always die after about 3 months when everyone else goes back to playing the big names.

Yo, anyone got any idea about why this @kethic user feels the need to downvote every post in every article? @alexwalker

It's very weird. It's not every article and it's not even every comment on those articles, but hell if I can pick the pattern.
