LG 2019 TV Range: Australian Price, Specs And Release Dates

This week has become all about new TVs. Yesterday Samsung announced the Australian pricing on its 8K models, and now LG has come to the party with its 2019 range.

LG’s 8K Z9 OLED won’t be launching here until the second half of the year, but it has announced a plethora of UHD and Super UHDs.

There will be seven ThinQ OLED variations, as well as nine Super UHDs and eight regular UHDs. The sizes will range from 49-inches to 86-inches.

“We’re continuing to push boundaries with our roster of home entertainment products in 2019 by introducing bigger, better and smarter TVs than our previous range. More and more Australians are falling in love with LG OLED TVs – their perfect blacks and stunning visual experience – and this year with the added AI benefits embedded in these models viewers will truly get the best visual experience that LG has to offer,” said Angus Jones, General Manager of Marketing at LG Electronics Australia.

The units are said to provide deeper blacks than the previous generation thanks to Full Array Dimming. This is combined with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to achieve a more realistic audio and visual experience. The sets are also equipped with a Alpha 7 Gen 2 Intelligent processors.

At the top of the range, the OLED TVs will have the upgraded Alpha 9 Intelligent Processor, as well as 4K cinema HDR.

It will also have a variety of form factors to suit differing lifestyles, including a Wallpaper style, Picture-on-Glass style and a Cinema Screen. All iterations come with ultra-thin bezels.

Some of the models will also include HDMI 2.1, Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC).

LG’s 2019 lineup will also add to its smart assistant offering with Amazon Alexa. A date for when that will be available is yet to be set, but will come via a firmware upgrade. Last year the company also stated that Alexa would be coming to the 2018 range, but this is yet to be finalised.

When this does become available it will make LG the only TV manufacturer to have both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa in-built. But it actually has to happen first.

Regardless, the ThinQ ecosystem does seem to be improving. At a recent demonstration the system was able to bring up information about a free-to-air TV show simply by being asked “Who is the director of this show?” It was impressive.

Later this year the TVs will also receive Apple AirPlay 2 support via a software upgrade.

LG’s Magic Remote has received some upgrades, too. You can now move the cursor over an app thumbnail to see when it was last used. You can also more easily pick up where you last left off in a show through this functionality.

While I’m still not a fan of the LG cursor aesthetic, this is definitely a welcome upgrade from a usability perspective.

LG’s 2019 TV range will begin rolling out from April. We have the full list of pricing and release months right here:
