With all of the main shooters and AAA blockbusters out of the way, it’s time for some more wholesome entertainment. Yoshi, get in here.

Yoshi’s Crafted World drops at the end of this week, and it’s hands down one of the most adorable games you’ll see all year. Seriously, if you have a Switch, check out some of the gameplay below. Nintendo let everyone capture 30 minutes of gameplay (edited in three minute chunks, so there’s plenty of bits and bobs).

Beyond that, it’s a busy week for the Switch: Galak-Z appears, there’s a ton of classic arcade games, a new game from the makers of Puzzle Quest, Pixark, and a few multiplat games.

And Final Fantasy 7. Just a small RPG.

Elesewhere, Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered drops on consoles. Tropico 6 is launching this week, and there’s also an unusual VN called Minotaur that looks real intriguing.

Onto the trailers! We’ll start not with Yoshi, but that visual novel Minotaur. Lot of good stuff going on, especially if you’re a Zero Escape fan. (Note the Windscape trailer below was for its PC release, but it’ll give you an idea of the gameplay.)

Trap for Winners looks kind of neat as well. Anyway, plenty of indies out this week and a ton of nostalgia bait. See anything that takes your fancy, or still knocking off Sekiro / the Apex battle pass / Division 2?

  • …it’s time for some more wholesome entertainment. Yoshi, get in here. Ah, Yoshi, the wholesome little dinosaur whose main conceit is the ability to eat things whole and then poop them out. There are places on the internet that love that kind of thing. ^_- (PS. Don’t go to them)

  • Got Yoshi on order thru that $49 Harvey Norman dealio, looking forward to that one.

Anyone know which game Alex is referring to as “from the makers of Puzzle Quest”? I can’t figure it out from the sentence structure. Is it the Pixark game mentioned right after? Or not?

  • Shut up and take my money I’m so getting Yoshi’s Crafted World for the Nintendo Switch at the end of this week even though my father and I will be going away very soon. Nintendo if you’re listening I’m hyped for Yoshi’s Crafted World and I’m still a huge Yoshi fan.
So shut up and take my money Nintendo I’m definitely getting Yoshi’s Crafted World at the end of this week.

    • Good lord I had no idea there was a remake of that. And now that I know, I still don’t really understand why. I mean, it was a great game back in the day, I loved it on the Amiga. But it doesn’t really stir any great sense of nostalgia for me today compared to some of the Bitmap Brothers other stuff eg Speedball 2.

      • Speedball 2 and Gods were my favourites, but I also had a soft spot for Magic Pockets, mainly (only) because of them using Betty Boo’s Doin’ the Do as the theme song 😀

  • So, does anyone know if the switch version of ff7 will look any nicer than the original? Like will the battle graphics possibly be the cleaner polygons of like the pc release etc ?
I’d expect it to look pretty good on the handheld screen anyway but jus wondering

    • Ok I already replied but it looks like it didn’t go through idk but in case it didn’t:
Yes it does feature a slight graphical upgrade similar to the PC release while still retaining that PS1 feel which I feel like was the best way to approach it IMO

      • Hey thanks for the reply. That’s good to hear…I may just have to get this. Haven’t fully replayed it since back in the day!

  • Immediately interested by Minotaur as it’s the first game to my knowledge where you can play as a penguin.

Also, Alex, I wonder what if anything inspired today’s scribbletaku, hm?
