PlayStation Plus Swaps Out Pro Evo 2019 For Detroit: Become Human

PlayStation Plus Swaps Out Pro Evo 2019 For Detroit: Become Human

The PS Plus games for July had already been revealed, but in a surprise twist, Sony has swapped out one of the games at the last minute.

The new lineup for July includes Detroit: Become Human, replacing Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 as one of the two free games for the month alongside Horizon Chase Turbo.

The change was so last minute, that the official blog post has simply been updated with the references to Pro Evo 2019 struck out:

The official post doesn’t explain the sudden change, but for most people Detroit is a vast improvement on any version of Pro Evo. The version of Detroit is the deluxe edition, which comes with the remastered version of Heavy Rain as well.

Along with the Outrun-style racer Horizon Chase Turbo, users can add the following to their account (provided you have an active PS+ subscription):

  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (inc. Borderlands 2, Borderlands The Pre-Sequel)
  • Sonic Mania
  • Horizon Chase Turbo
  • Detroit: Become Human (inc. Heavy Rain)

Not a bad day for PS4 freebies. Detroit and Horizon Chase Turbo will be available until August 5, while the other games are due to lapse shortly, so add them to your account (you don’t need to download the game) while you can.

  • Loved seeing that announcement this morning! Detroit has been on my list of games to play since it was released. Really looking forward to jumping in and seeing how it plays out.

  • Also worth noting that the Detroit version on PS+ is the digital deluxe, which includes the PS4 version of Heavy Rain.

Nevermind, it is mentioned in your list. 🙂

  • Feels wrong that Detroit is on the free list as it’s an amazing game but at the same time great for people to try it and see how amazing this game is. Voice actor who plays Connor is Bryan Dechart and he is a super cool person as well his wife who also plays a character in the game if you get to meet them at a convention.

  • Borderlands and Sonic arent there. They were last months games so might have been still there at time of writing, but like every other month, mysteriously vanished when the new games appeared.

    Strange that…

  • Feel really cheated by Sony with this last minute swap. Was really looking forward to PES

  • Am I the only pessimistic one thinking that this is to flood the market before they become available on EGS for PC, thus reducing EGS sales?

    • I doubt it. Giving it away on PS+ doesn’t really earn Sony any more money than somebody buying it on EGS.

And even if that were Sony’s nefarious scheme, you’d think they’d have come up with it prior to the day of the PS+ games actually going live. PES was just announced last week, so clearly something has changed in just those few days.

I suspect this change has probably been driven from the Konami side rather than Sony.

      • You mean Detroit was the stand-in in case one of the official titles got stage-fright? I can see that… it makes sense to have some of the more ripe first-party titles ready for a low-paperwork emergency sub-in.

          • Yeah, I saw that… it was actually the first thing I thought of when I noticed it was a swap, not an addition. Sorry, dude.

          • My kid would’ve preferred Knack 2 I think!!! Still Detroit looks cool

    • I say, sir! The fine and upstanding members of the publishing and distribution industries would never, EVER stoop to that kind of skullduggery! Perish the thought.

  • Hey @transientmind you should check this out, I know you were looking for Detroit in the sales…

    (tee hee!)
