The Super Monkey Ball Remaster Looks Great

Super Monkey Ball is getting remastered later and, so far, it looks fantastic.

A teaser trailer for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD was released overnight, and it looks fun enough, but the real treat are the remastered screeners given to Japanese gaming mag Famitsu. The article notes that Banana Blitz HD is launching internationally on the PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One and PC from October 31, but SEGA’s local distributor confirmed via a press release that the game will arrive in Australia for consoles on October 29.

The only platform to miss out will be the PC. It’s still getting Banana Blitz HD, there’s just not an announced release date for it yet. But it’s pretty clear what platform this will be the best on — the Switch with its gyro controls, and maybe the PS4 second if you don’t have that alternative. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz first launched in 2006 for the Wii, and even though the graphics were blurry and blocky as you’d expect from a Switch game, it was a ton of fun.

The remaster is looking much sharper, as you can see in the screenshots from Famitsu.

Banana Blitz HD will be released on PC sometime in the Australian summer, with all platforms getting sharper graphics, a new Decathlon mini-game mode, online leaderboards, and revamped control schemes.
