Faze Clan Fires Kay, Suspends Three Other Members Over Shady Crypto Scheme

Last month, four members of Faze Clan — Kay, Jarvis, Nikan and Teeqo — were in the Fuck Around stage of an incredibly shady cryptocurrency operation. Today, they are very much in the Find Out stage.

To recap, here’s what we reported earlier in the week:

In short, a cryptocurrency token — digital currency on the blockchain that can be traded or invested — called ‘Save The Kids’ was released in June. Crypto assets like these are becoming more and more common, especially after the tumultuous rise of cryptos like Dogecoin and the volatile but popular Bitcoin. What set this specific token apart was that it promised users that a percentage of the proceeds would go to charity. The coin also came with a slate of influencer ambassadors, including Ricegum and Faze Nikan, who shared news of its development and release with their fanbases.

What happened next will sound familiar to anyone following crypto news lately: the value of the coin seemed solid for a day or two, only to immediately plummet. Anyone who purchased tokens lost money by several orders of magnitude, with the value going from about a penny to about a tenth of a penny.

Loads of the group’s fans pumped money into this scheme, believing their investment was protected by the high profile of those endorsing it, only to see their money disappear almost literally overnight.

One Faze member, Kay, apologised to his fanbase on Twitter following Save The Kids’ collapse, writing

Please note that last part, where he says he didn’t “vet any of this with my team”.

Turns out nobody did, and given the incredibly negative public blowback following the currency’s collapse, Faze clan have moved quickly to discipline some the team members involved, including — and most dramatically — Kay himself.

Faze’s statement reads:

We have made the decision to remove Kay from FaZe Clan, and have suspended Jarvis, Nikan and Teeqo until further notice.

FaZe Clan had absolutely no involvement with our members’ activity in the cryptocurrency space, and we strongly condemn their recent behaviour.

The trust and respect of our fans has been, and always will be, our number one priority.

  • “Loads of the group’s fans pumped money into this scheme, believing their investment was protected by the high profile of those endorsing it”

Sounds like a classic “fools and their money” situation. Hard to find much sympathy for that kind of stupidity.

  • Was going through the faces… and then went hey one of those faces looks familiar…

Oh it’s Jarvis “I didn’t know cheating would get me banned in Fortnight. I’m sorry” Drama a while back.

Guess he moved on to cheating for lulz to scamming! I’m so proud of this boy! (yes that was sarcasm)

Here’s the thing…. If the CS:GO skin gambling has shown us anything this won’t affect any of these guys at all. They have millions of followers who will be believing in them and “standing by them”
