Bit of a shocker, I went to a few outlets thinking it might be one of those celebrity death hoaxes that pop up now and then.

Soo… something that has seemed to have gone under the radar coz of recent events…
Funimation is officially no more as they have officially merged with Crunchyroll at the beginning of March.. no more simulcasts as they will only be on CR and they will be porting all of Funimation’s library on CR by end of March…and oh boy you bet they’re milking this so much.
They are literally saying “if you have a CR account just cancel your Funi account (with warnings your history etc. will not port over) and you’re all set!” on the FAQ
Basically they are basically half assing any migrations for a whole month. Saying “hey you could stay on Funi and wait for a whole month for an account that wont be updated with content anymore or you could just make a CR account now! We won’t have any support for account mergers yet of course (and hey we may probably never bother!) but you totally should “try” CR now”
Bloody hell… even the swallowing up of Animelab wasn’t this half assed…

To be completely blunt, Funimation was awful anyway. They are still going to continue with the simulcasts on Funimation though from what I read on Crunchyroll.

This seems at least slightly less half-assed than the Animelab situation. For one, Funimation (despite being the parent platform now) is inserting itself into CR instead of replacing it like it did with AL, meaning us original AL subscribers will no longer be stuck going from the best experience of the three to the worst. Considering how finicky it was trying to get a merged account to behave previously, I’m kinda on the fence about the merge vs cancellation situation this time around, though obviously annoyed that current subscriptions from one won’t get extended to the other.
As far as I could tell Funi is still getting simulcasts for a bit longer so they aren’t just getting stopped short like what happened with AL.
