Developing the popular RTS Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun involved solving a whole host of problems. But the biggest and most interesting problem was figuring out to allow hundreds of troops and vehicles to move around maps without slowing and destroying PCs at the time.
Every now and again, gamers will come across this strange compulsion: the desire to continue playing something, while battling an almost constant internal monologue about how rubbish the game actually is.
EA’s attempt to revive the Command & Conquer franchise as a deck-based RTS, akin to Halo Wars 2, hasn’t been well received thus far. People are still waiting to play the game, of course, but it does beg the question: what would a proper re-imagining of the series look like?
