Three different teams with Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng on them have now won major North American League of Legends titles. The third, Team Liquid, instantly became the most memorable yesterday with a 3-0 sweep over 100 Thieves. Just a week after his brother was arrested and charged with murdering their mother, Doublelift opted to travel to Miami and compete in the North American Spring Split.
Yihong Peng, older brother of League of Legends superstar Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng, was arrested and charged with the murder of his mother and assault of his father on Saturday in San Juan Capistrano, California. According to a statement by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, Peng's 59-year-old mother Wei Ping Shen was stabbed to death. His father, Guojon Peng, was critically injured but is "expected to survive".
Oh, the irony. Professional League of Legends player Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng has been sidelined from his position on the North American team Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) due to an IRL sports injury. Peng gashed his pinky finger playing basketball recently, deep enough that he needed to get stitches.
Burnt out and tired of playing for a losing team, professional League of Legends player Austin "Link" Shin announced last night that he was leaving the game. He did so in a bombastic way: writing an 18-page screed that called out nearly all his former teammates, coaches, and ultimately the game itself.
Killing all five members of the opposing team within a few seconds of one another in League of Legends is such an impressive feat that it has its own name: "pentakill". Like many awesome League plays, it's also old hat by pro players' standards. Except for those great moments when it seems like you're so close to getting the fifth kill but might not seal the deal in time.
