Predaking? Weak. Superion? Bah. Before the Autobots and Decepticons started transforming teams of five into one giant robot, there were the Constructicons, six construction vehicle robots who combined into the mighty Devastator. The original gestalt is a “towering warrior” in the Transformers Trading Card Game’s upcoming Rise of the Combiners expansion.
First, the official Transformers Trading Card Game gave us extra-large character cards. Then a super-sized Metroplex. Now, in the grand tradition of Yu-Gi-Oh’s Exodia the Forbidden One, the next Transformers Trading Card Game expansion gives us combiners—five cards creating one giant robot.
Just as I was getting used to having hero cards two times the size of the average trading card game, Hasbro releases the Metroplex deck, featuring a card as large as my face. No card should be as big as my face.
Giant transforming robots deserve giant trading cards, and they get them in the new Transformers Trading Card Game. Hasbro tapped Wizards of the Coast to give the Autobots and Decepticons a new way to battle, and it’s slightly more than meets the eye.
