Some advice for professional game developers and marketers: Don’t open up confidential information in public. Especially don’t do it a on a crowded subway.
Take the case of Redditor Tripleh280, who wrote today that he was riding a Montreal subway and saw this:
Zoom in a bit and you can just make out the name Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is also a name we’ve heard floated for the next game in Lara Croft’s iconic series. A source told me today that this is indeed the name. It certainly fits with the last two games, Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. (Everything is subject to change until it’s announced, of course, but this document is, as far as we can tell, legit.)
Square Enix has not yet responded to a request for comment.
“The page he was on talked about visuals,” Tripleh280 told me. “I’m from Montreal, QC. I was going downtown for work and I took a quick snap. I really would love to say more but other than the title, the rest was blurry from where I was.”
“But wait,” you might be thinking. “Isn’t Tomb Raider developed by Crystal Dynamics, a studio in San Francisco?” You would be right — except we hear Eidos Montreal, the large studio behind Thief and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, is helming Lara Croft’s next adventure.
Coincidentally, Eidos Montreal is just a few minutes away from Ubisoft Montreal, whose employees accidentally revealed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on an aeroplane three years ago. Stay tuned for next time, when Dragon Age 4 gets leaked on a cruise ship.

Hopefully Dragon Age 4 is leaked when they dump it into a big fire.
ouch…
Or an ET style landfill only to be discovered and then refilled and covered with concrete and warning signs.
I applaud your idea and would like to subscribe to your monthly magazine.
“Let’s set up a really awesome lore about Grey Wardens and demons and some great gameplay mechanics and semi-open world stuff reminiscent of Baldurs gate andddddddddddddddddd dump it all for some shitty sequels. Done.”
But you can screw almost everyone!* Look out! There is an enemy over there! Mash A, A, A, A, A….
*When you’re not picking herbs….
Inquisition wasn’t that bad. Its biggest issues were the unnecessary MMO fetch quest open-world padding (felt like a great RPG trapped inside a bad one) and the fact that The Witcher 3 came out not long after and lifted the bar for that style of RPG so high.
Crystal Dynamics did a really good job with the last two Tomb Raider games – it’s a bit worrying that they have changed developers…
Crystal Dynamics were supposed to announce a new IP back in 2012. Leaks suggested it was actually a new Legacy of Kain game but it was cancelled so they could focus on Rise of the Tomb Raider instead. I’d say if Crystal Dynamics isn’t working on a third Tomb Raider game, there’s a good chance that’s what they’re doing instead.
And besides, Eidos Montreal isn’t a bad developer either. They’re not like Ubisoft that shits out a million games at once, they take their time and release games that are made fairly well (even if they end up being a bit flat like Deus Ex was this year).
Indeed. Given they’ve decided after one game I actually ended up really liking and the other according to a few mates is great (I’ll be nabbing it soon, I trust their judgement thoroughly), this doesn’t sit well with me :\
Crystal Dynamics have been on Tomb Raider games since Legend in 2006, not just since the reboot. Rise was the eighth Tomb Raider / Lara Croft game they’ve worked on in a row.
It doesn’t sit well with me either.
But maybe another dev is needed. I found the mechanics of the sequel to be far too familiar. The formula, while fun for a while, is exactly like the first. Once I feel locked in to a pattern, the immersion falls away.
It would be a shame for this particular imagining to become another annually recycled, skill tree crafter in a collectable filled sandbox.
Even a visual UI tweak can make a ton of difference.
Can’t wait for the next Arkham game to be leaked on a bus.
To be honest I am just happy they are doing another Tomb Raider game… with all the mess up with Rise of the Tomb Raider being Xbox exclusive I thought it would lead to low sales and the end of that rebooted series… btw have they released numbers for the ROTR?
