Road Rage: Why It Affects Normal People (And How To Avoid It)

Aug 9, 2016, 1:42pm

I completely agree that most drivers don't act maliciously.
That would require they have the slightest awareness that they share the road. The number of ppl who drive in their own insular world or are with their heads down on their phones is frightening.

MT07 is an awesome LAMS bike, and the non LAMS one would be brilliant!

Sorry to see your baby hurt. I'd be /PISSED/ if it happened to my bike.

Stay safe, shiny side up :)

Ask LH: Why Don't I Get Paid Extra During Leap Years?

Feb 26, 2016, 10:21am

I only just woke up before and couldn't even see my phone properly. Maths:
365 days in a year = 26 fortnights and 1 remaining day
This means that each year the pay DATE should decrease by 1. In a leap year, it will decrease by 2. Meaning you get paid for the leap day.

People who get paid monthly though, they can potentially get screwed over, unless their AWA/EBA whatever lists the day rate, and then mathematically calculates how much the average is for the year including leap days. Most large companies will do this though in my experience. It's just most employees are self-entitled and assume they're being screwed when they read things like this article online.

Ask LH: Why Don't I Get Paid Extra During Leap Years?

Feb 26, 2016, 10:00am

No it is a salary. Sometimes I work 50 hrs a week, other times 75, depending on shifts. The only variance to my pay is working on RDOs, where I'll get a day in lieu payment (paid an extra day rate).

I get paid every fortnight on a Thursday. The amount I get paid is identical every Thursday (except the aforementioned DIL payments).

So if there is a leap year, there will be one less day at the start of my first pay cycle in the next year due to it being counted in the leap year. Therefore I'm paid for the extra day.

Ask LH: Why Don't I Get Paid Extra During Leap Years?

Feb 25, 2016, 3:33pm

Ummm... I get paid fortnightly. The annual salary is merely a point of reference. I get paid for every 14 days I work. Leap years have zero effect.

GoPro On Motorcycle Helmets Confirmed As Legal In Court

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's smart. Look what happened to Schumacher... I'd stick to a bike mounted camera if I were to want to record my ride.

Remember Which Grains Contain Gluten With The BROWS Acronym

Jan 15, 2016, 2:49pm

You'd be surprised. I have 2 good friends who are coeliacs, my ex used to be gluten intolerant (stomach used to swell to the point people would ask her when she was due), and someone I've started seeing is fructose intolerant which virtually requires she follow gluten free.

There might not be fake profiles from the company, but certainly plenty of fake Tinder profiles from girls trying to sell webcam access. Tinder sucks.

Is It Legal To Lane Filter On A Motorcycle?

Aug 18, 2015, 4:36pm

Victoria was supposed to have rules formalised this month. I don't see it happening at this stage though. The Government; she moves quickly!

I notice that motorists are becoming a lot more accommodating to motorcycles filtering these days though, moving aside when possible etc... Or perhaps it's that my exhaust is a lot louder on my new bike haha...

Is It Legal To Lane Filter On A Motorcycle?

Aug 18, 2015, 4:30pm

Ever been rear-ended in a car? It's quite painful and jarring. Try it on a motorcycle. You want to be in a position where a car can't hit you from behind - ie at the front of a line of traffic at the stop light.

Concentration is heightened when on a motorcycle, yet even as a motorcyclist, I feel my concentration lower into a comfort zone when I'm in my car. The only way to be safe on a motorcycle in traffic is if cars are way behind you or way ahead of you.

Is It Legal To Lane Filter On A Motorcycle?

Aug 18, 2015, 4:25pm

I'll filter through slow moving traffic, but once my speed hits 30-40km/h I'm into the lane properly.

Security Alert: Stagefright Bug Affects Almost Every Android Phone

Jul 28, 2015, 6:43pm

I use MMS all the time. Anyone with a phone these days has access to MMS, but trying to keep track of who uses Viber, whatsapp etc. Screw that. Why use 16 different apps when you can just use built in? I'm not so needy that I desperately need to see when/if someone read my message... Which is the only benefit to those apps that I can see.

I'm 32 btw.

The Best GPU Upgrades For Every Budget

May 22, 2015, 2:05pm

Wouldn't touch NVidia with a 10 foot pole. I've had 3 NVidia and 4 AMDs so far and had nothing but problems with the NVidias. All 3 were unstable for me, and only 1 of the 4 AMDs were unstable. NVidia tend to make the most powerful GPUs, but that comes at a cost (In my experience - but everyone's mileage varies).

Ask LH: Is It Illegal To Take Other People's Junk During Council Cleanups?

May 1, 2015, 12:36pm

I agree, however people have been known to have been fined for disposing of certain substances or materials in the wrong bin type. I know my council gave my neighbour a nastygram the other month because they had put green-waste in the standard bin. They threatened a fine at the next occurence.
So if other people use my bins, and I get in trouble for it, I'd be pissed!

How Every Australian Airline Is Cracking Down On Hand Luggage

Apr 30, 2015, 9:40am

They use standard weights for passengers. It tends to average out, however as the comment below states there can sometimes be problems with that too.

The main weight limit is the overhead compartment. As an example, the aircraft I work in has a limit of 22.5 kg for each overhead compartment, yet the size of the compartment is large enough for at least 3 carry on bags.
