Disney fan Aish’s chronological chart of Disney movies really shows that they pretty much cover all ages, and that the folks at Disney were really into the 19th century.
Here’s the full chart:
Aish also noted the following:
Excludes most of the package films. Some films, eg The Lion King, are impossible to pin down exactly and some, like Aladdin and Treasure Planet, are anachronistic, so these are estimations. A few have been split into 2 if there is more than one time period in the movie, and sequels have been put together.
And she even has a list with all the movie titles, in case if you haven’t recognised them all.

God I loved that movie…remember seeing it in the cinema.
freaking AWESOME movie 🙂
This week on posts that have been circulating tumblr, etc for weeks.
As someone who doesn’t spend his time on tumblr etc I’m glad this was posted here. Already seen it? Don’t click.
Aladdin is set in a dystopian future which is why Genie is able to make references to 20th century pop culture.
Genie makes refers to Jasmine as a ‘once in a milennia’ kind of girl: ‘believe me, I’ve looked’ and has knowledge of ‘last century’s’ fashion despite spending 10,000 years in the lamp. Genie is a time traveller. Ovs.
Maybe he just has a good net connection in the Cave of Wonders?
He has “phenomenal cosmic power” so I don’t think it’s farfetched to assume he either travels through time or doesn’t view time in a linear fashion like us mortals do.
Cracked covered this idea pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX_SMzhbDqc
Brother Bear is 10 000 BC? Can’t be right.
Also, now I want to see The Great Mouse Detective again.
Never seen it, any good?
Yes, its one of those more underrated Disney classics. Maybe cos there were no princesses or romance, only 2 songs, but definitely worth a watch 🙂
It’s essentially Sherlock holmes if he were a mouse…and uh, not a drug addict, I guess
Nothing says Brother Bear can’t be that early, but there is also little saying it can’t be as late as the early 19th century. It is set post ice age, but whether that is centuries after or millennia after is not clarified.
It is most definitely pre-colonisation. I’d say the same about the Lion King.
Pre-European colonisation, yes, but given Brother Bear’s likely location near the Canada/Alaska border, that allows for some relatively recent placement.
Confusing that they’ve put included the 7000 b.c. flashback from Atlantis: The Lost Empire when the bulk of the film takes place in 1914.
They’ve also put an entry in for the bulk of the film..
Yes, clearly, but why include a flashback scene?
how could Atlantis be 7000BC? the setting is obviously late 19th-early 20th century.. unless i’m forgetting something
Read the above conversation.
Disney should go back to cartoon style.
Only one I didnt recognize was Big Hero 6 D: I just watched the trailer and it looks AMAZING
