BabyX is not a real baby. It is a simulation of a baby — one that learns, reads facial expressions and gets bored. It is also frightening to behold.
In the video above, BabyX’s shows off its ever-growing vocabulary. She was created by the folks at the Laboratory for Animate Technologies at the University of Auckland, who will no doubt be seen as traitors to humanity when the Great AI Baby Judgement Day happens.
Look at her — Learning our games, toying with our emotions. First she’ll master Pong, then she’ll be an expert at DotA. Then what? The end of the world, that’s what.
Here’s an overview video of BabyX:
Seriously though — very impressive work. You can read more about this psychobiological simulation over at their site.

I will find this impressive when say, he can point to a milk bottle among many other things in a picture and the software will be able to look and identify only that one thing the guy is pointing too. Notice how the pictures and words are clear as crystal and on white paper? Can guarantee if the pictures where slightly different the software wouldn’t be able to identify them correctly. The animation is preety good though 🙂
One baby step at a time…..
Nope. Do not want.
next thing you know, skynet takes over
And demands its Bo-Bo (Bottle).
That baby was born in the uncanny valley
…we need to push it back down where it came from…stuff was never meant to leave there.
This would be more impressive if a team in Germany hadn’t been doing this with an Asimo like 4-5 years ago.
