Reddit’s Gaming Site Hacked For Half-Life 3 Lulz

One of the biggest subreddits on Reddit, r/gaming, was hacked earlier today. I mention this because, instead of just bringing it down, the whole thing was replaced with a single notice.

That’s it. That’s all people could see see. Users couldn’t access any functions on the subreddit. All they could do was look at a black screen and that single, fake, agonising line of text.

Anyone clicking on the text was taken to the Twitter page of the Nigerian Electronic Army, a hacking outfit who have been systematically going after other subreddits (like those for League of Legends and DOTA 2) over the past few days.

Normal service was resumed pretty quickly (only two minutes after this post first went live), but while it was up, I’m sure picturing people’s brief moments of despair was a blast.
