Two of geek fiction’s most hot-headed space-faring heroes will be boldly going into the blackest night this summer when James Kirk, Hal Jordan and their respective entourages cross paths this summer.
Announced today by comics publishers IDW and DC, the iconic universes will be crashing into each other in a series called Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War. Written by Mike Johnson and drawn by Angel Hernandez, the six-month offering will feature the Abrams-era version of the Enterprise crew meeting up with GL mythos mainstay Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps:
Now all Star Trek fans can watch their favourite U.S.S. Enterprise crew members meet Hal Jordan and the entire Green Lantern Corps in an adventure that spans space, time and all the colours of the spectrum. Set in Star Trek’s 23rd Century, the balance of the universe will be tested when the Green Lantern Corps’ Power Rings come into the possession of certain Star Trek characters while a dark and powerful evil looms around every corner. Only the combined power of the Green Lantern Corp and the Federation stand any chance of stopping those who worship evil’s might.
This isn’t the first Trek + superhero crossover by any means. The Federation’s finest crew has beamed up Marvel’s X-Men and DC’s Legion of Superheroes before. At the very least, the newest team-up affords Jordan and Kirk the chance to compare notes on evil doppelgangers, messing with the timestream and the best way to not follow orders. And, if there’s not a scene where the two leads’ penchant for girlfriends with jewel-toned skin colours gets referenced, then someone’s not doing their job.

I’m not a serious die hard fan of either, but this is kinda cool!
Probably still better than the Star Trek Planet of the Apes cross over.
I wonder if it’ll be as terrible as the X-Men Star Trek crossovers they’ve done over the years.
I just threw up a little in my mouth…
