Community Kudos

Friday. Today is Friday. Tomorrow is Saturday. This means it is very close to what we humans call ‘the weekend’. This also means it’s time for Community Kudos.

But first I wanted to say thanks once again to the entire community for putting together the amazing package for Quinn, my newborn son. When I took everything home my wife got pretty excited! She particularly loved the massive Pac-Man blanket thing!

Quinn was also a fan. He’s only a month old, so he doesn’t smile a lot. But the love is there!

Thanks again everyone! Alright, onto the noms.

It seems as though there has been some Gold Coast community action, with meets ups, dinners and what not. I am jelly.

Nova
I have noms for Freeze, DC and Sughly. I’ve been on holidays on the Gold Coast for the last week and a half, and these 3 fine gents were kind enough to come and meet me one night. Was great to meet some new TAYbies.

I really need to sort a visit to QLD at one point…

The man they call D.C. also dropped some similar noms, with a few additions — most notably a super generous and thoughtful Puppylicks

D.C.
I’d like to nominate Sughly, Freeze, Mrs. Freeze and NovaCascade for an awesome weekend. Best people ever! We had a Surfer’s Paradise meat last weekend. Sughly awesomely gave me a ride to and from the coast and put up with my adventure game ramblings! Freeze and Mrs. Freeze let me crash at their place. (So. Damn. Kind.) NovaCascade travelled all the way from Orange to meet us… and do some other things on the Gold Coast I suppose… Great weekend, though! Thank you! I’d also like to nominate all the Brisbane TAYbies who met up at the impromptu lunch on Wednesday!

Puppylicks, though. Holy damn! I was talking about how much I loved Quantic Dream and regretted not playing Omikron: The Nomad Soul and he totally sent me his copy in the mail. Saying I appreciate it is an understatement for the ages!

Strange also nominated Puppylicks for his stellar commenting. I like that Strange always rewards thoughtful commenting with noms. It’s a real cool thing. Also — go Puppylicks!

Strange
This week I wish to nominate Puppylicks for Kudos. He’s always full of insight but I want to nominate him for this comment in particular.

So Kudos to him for his ever present voice of reason.

Tigerion pulled off a Strange this week, nominating people for quality comments. I like this! It means we’ll get more quality comments!

Tigerion
mikeockertz: A fairly recent commenter but I have noticed a mature and non antagonistic tone to all his responses to article and other pepole. Nice work

Redartifice and Spaghett: For the ongoing community building that is Monday morning question and last song played.

Another thing I really love is when someone new to the community sends in nominations. These nominations always sound familiar, but they never fail to warm the cockles of my heart. It’s the tale of a community completely willing to embrace new folks. It’s a cool story.

Ash
I’m @ash in the Kotaku comments section.

I’d like to make some nominations for Community Kudos as follows:

All the TAYbies for making me feel welcome to TAY, but especially @spaghett for the extra warm welcome and @shane for making sure I didn’t miss anything.

Thanks Ash — and welcome to the community!

It was also good to get an email from Jimu Hsien. It’s been a while! So long in fact that he had to tweet me to make sure my email address was still the same. He dropped a kudos nomination for Kotaku’s resident Legal Eagle MrMcGarnigal, and dropped some honorable mentions while he was at it.

Jimu Hsien
I would like to nominate MrMcGarnigal (the best best lawyer cat evah). I nom him for his tireless effort to help me buy US PSN funds.

Runners up were:
Doc What
Negative Zero
& Last but not least Greenius, even though Pladnim is bedda!

Coincidentally Jimu himself was nominated by the esteemed co-creator of the KFC club Ruffleberg.

Ruffleberg
I nominate Jimu for sending me this awesome book as a birthday gift.

Brooooo, I didn’t even know it was your birthday. What the hell.

In other news, Ruffleberg and I have recently recruited a new member into the KFC club* — Batguy!

*Editor’s note — the KFC club is where myself and Ruffleberg go to a dodgy pub in Parramatta to watch UFC.

And speaking of Batguy (I am the segue King) he received a nom from Welbot!

Welbot
I have to nom Mr Batguy this week. Apparently he’s taking me to see They Might Be Giants when they come to Brisbane, and wont accept no for an answer. Just have to hope I’m not homeless by then so at least I can offer him a couch to sleep on while he’s here!

I know it hasn’t happened yet, but the notion alone is worthy of a nom. 🙂

Who are They Might Be Giants? Are they one of them there noisy rock and roll bands? #oldmanserrels

Zap nominated Drama Llama, who has the best username.

Zap
This week, I nom Drama Llama. Truly a debonair spokesbeing for us all.

Final nom of the week comes from Redartifice. He emailed me today asking if it was still cool to nom folks for the Potaku community site. I was all like, hell yes! I hope folks don’t forget all the crazy work these guys put into the podcast and the content on the site itself. A worthy nom. I totally approve.

Redartifice
I would like to nominate both Alex AND his Pants, for doing a great job over at Potaku.com. Potaku is starting to build a really interesting mix of content, even if some people only go on there to pontificate about minutiae in SF books.

Oh and don’t worry Greenius! I didn’t forget your Twitter noms! (I almost forgot your twitter noms!)

Greenius nominated both Ruffleberg and PlatinumUrchin for being champs!

Alright, so this week’s winner is… Puppylicks! Congrats and have a good weekend everyone!
