Been waiting for the first chunk of that $US500,000 in-game cash infusion that Rockstar promised as a make-good for the bumpy launch of GTA Online. You’re going to have to wait a while longer. The makers of Red Dead Redemption don’t want to throw all that money out in the world until more bugs get killed.
In an new update on the status of GTA Online, Rockstar talked about delaying Stimulus Package and upcoming addition to the multiplayer version of Los Santos:
THE GTA$ STIMULUS PACKAGE
We know many of you are anxiously waiting for us to show you the GTA$ Stimulus Package money we announced a couple weeks back. As mentioned in that post, we of course want to ensure that game progress loss issues are sufficiently sorted before distributing the GTA$ to everyone. We have a few more tweaks and fixes to make in a new title update that will hit sometime next week and then we will distribute the cash.
THE BEACH BUM PACK
Coming in early November will be the first add-on content update, the Beach Bum Pack which will bring all-new beach themed vehicles and new weaponry that you’ll be able to use in both GTA Online and Story Mode. Plus new customisation options for your GTA Online character including new tats, hairstyles and more. We’ll also be adding lots of brand new action-packed Jobs to play with Gang Attacks, Survivals, Last Team Standings, Parachutes, Deathmatches and Races that will have you bloodying up the waters and coastlines of the finest beach resorts across Los Santos and Blaine County.
THE CONTENT CREATOR
We are also working to bring you the debut of the first part of the GTA Online Content Creator this fall — giving players the ability to craft, publish, rate and play custom-made Deathmatch and Race Jobs. We’ll be keeping our eye open for exceptional ones that we’ll be stamping as ‘Rockstar Verified’ and will be featuring them here at the Newswire and as part of forthcoming GTA Online Social Club Events. Both the Content Creator and the Beach Bum Pack are free.
SOCIAL CLUB EVENT WEEKENDS
Starting in November will be the first Grand Theft Auto Online Social Club Event weekends which will bring special rewards and bonuses ranging from limited-edition in-game Event Crate Drops to in-game discount specials and even a special new GTA Online live-stream show hosted by Rockstar at the Social Club Events page and Rockstar Games Twitch page — plus prize pack giveaways of hard to find GTAV gear and more.
When it’s working right, GTA Online is great fun. But the prospects of user-generated missions could ramp it even more.

Why “The makers of Red Dead Redemption”?
Lucky he put that in there, i would’ve had no idea who R* was otherwise..
It’s misleading, anyway. Rockstar San Diego made Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar North (Located in Scotland) made GTA V. Sure they’re all on the same team, but it comes off as more of a plug towards the developers as a whole since it’s not relevant to the article, or accurate.
I feel like it was Midtown Madness or L.A. Noire that was their breakthrough titles that made them famous.
@joemit – The first thing I thought.
I appreciate the additions to single player, but I don’t think anything will get me back on multiplayer. Considering how disappointing the heists were even in single player, I’m not sure their eventual addition to multiplayer will make any difference.
GTAV for me will forever be known as the game that had the most potential, yet failed to live up to it. Still better than IV though…
I disagree, GTA IV was a step in a direction where the character is more than a vessel of pure carnage. It explored the Human condition and problems with interpretation of the “American Dream”. Now don’t get me wrong roman calling non stop was annoying ad the perk unlock activities were stupid. GTA V suffers from the fact that non of the protagonists have any solid motivation to do heists. (The Heists, all 8 of them were pretty poor for the main focus, with paleto bay being the best). All the motivation behind events in GTA V was weak (mainly antagonists, but also protagonists), In GTA IV everything happened for a reason, by the 1/2 way point you knew the antagonist and there was build up to the confrontation. This is virtually non existent in GTAV. Also n GTA IV cars didn’t fly 20-50ft in the air for a slight ramp off the freeway.
GTA IV was boring for a GTA game. We obviously appreciate different aspects of the series. I play it as a simulator/sandbox RPG, not so much for the story. Although it’s great when they get both right (Red Dead), GTA IV neither appealed to me as a game nor as an interesting piece of story telling.
Trying to hook people into playing for longer so people don’t bail and trade it in early.
GTA online is just horrible – GTA 5 is great.
I wouldn’t say horrible at all, I’d just say…. empty without further promised content. It really needs some more stuff to do.
Yeah I can agree with that, I also hate how long it takes to get into jobs and the way it isnt setup so you can actively play with the other 15 or w/e people already in the game. Just seems borely designed to me.
I dunno, I play a shit ton of Online and I have to say, it is pretty horrible, content or not. Balance is out the window, the economy is shot to hell, progression is lacking and aside from a full player wipe, I am not sure how they will get back on track. (But that would create a lot of anger)
Don’t even get me started on the clearly exploitable mechanics than any idiot could have forseen when building the game, which is partly why we saw lvl 100+ in the first week carrying millions upon millions of dollars, many of the exploiters blatantly flaunt their actions of the GTA Online support forums because they know Rockstar is afraid to actually punish people for what is essentially their own mistakes.
I do enjoy it, but I don’t think it will ever reach what they envisioned it to be….they should really have done a Beta run to work out the kinks
“if you want to see how fast something can be done, give it to a lazy person, they will find the fastest way. If you want to see how fast something can be broken, give it to gamers”
GTA online is far from horrible. And it’s just going to get better with new jobs added, more customisation and heists! I’m sorry you feel that way about it :p
Traded it towards Arkham Origins yesterday. Single player was good fun, multi was fun too, but once you get to level 40 or so it becomes glaringly apparent that 85% of the missions you get from calling characters are ‘go here, get drugs of some sort, go here’.
With the new consoles so close, R* really needed to have the heists and content creator out by now, and even then, do they expect most people to stop playing next gen stuff to come back to Gta?
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Gta, was great fun. But for a game that does so much, it spreads it’s lasting appeal. Death match and LTS are rubbish with the lock on system, races are fun till a point.
I’m not raging at R* to do more, it’s just that it was always going to be hard to keep people’s attention once the honeymoon was over.
Yeah lock on ruins deathmatch thats for sure, however servers Ive been on seem to have it turned off by default thankfully.
Myself and many many other people I know will be playing GTA online for a long long time to come. Hell I only really stopped playing GTA IV online early this year. So to answer your question, yes, I think alot of people will stop playing next gen stuff to come back to GTA.
Also not everyone is going to be an early adopter to next gen so I think GTA online will have plenty of people playing for quite some time.
I agree that the heists are criminally overdue. I’ve kinda stopped playing it daily cause while them missions eventually have some variety (after level 55 they’re even better), there’s just not enough of them.
Lock on is not a problem though, if you host a game and you have your targeting set to free aim it becomes default for everyone in the game. My friends only search for free-aim lobbies. Lock on is just ugh.
Still though, even if Rockstar abandoned the game now and never put heists in and I never went back to playing it once next gen arrives, it’s been an incredible amount of value for money.
The only thing that’s tapering these days is GTA V/Online’s playerbase. hohoho
‘beach themed vehicleS’, so… 2 then?
They better hurry up, next gen isnt that far away now
Cause that killed the ps2 dead right…
I feel that the next gen will have a stronger and faster effect on the last generation than last time around due to how much more widespread gaming has become.
The PS2 didn’t have anywhere near the same competition that consoles have now though.
For my group of gamer friends it did…. my ps2 went straight into one of my kids rooms.
I doubt I will touch GTA V again after next Gen regardless of DLC
I bet the stimulus package was actually held back by the Republicans.
