If you have a Facebook profile, chances are good that you’ve populated it with some information about yourself. Like say, some of your favourite games — that way, anyone can look on your page and learn a little bit about you. It’s a useful feature, but it’s also used so that Facebook can spit more “relevant” ads at you.
These ads can be a little unfortunate, as the Tumblr Gross Facebook Ads finds out. “I started seeing a lot of gross ads on Facebook because I’m a gamer,” the Tumblr description explains. “So I decided to start documenting them”, it continues.
Here are a few of the ads you might see on Facebook because you like games — most of them roll with the idea that all gamerzzzzzz are boneheads who are only interested in scantily clad women. The games don’t even look particularly good. It’s standard fare, as far as ads on the internet go (I’ve gotten some of these myself/have seen ads like this elsewhere), but you’d think that, with how big Facebook is/how much information they store on the average person, that they’d promote good quality stuff OR stuff that’s particularly relevant to the user. Alas!
Some folks must click on these ads though, right? I gotta wonder what goes through their head when they do.
“Ah yes, I’m a big boy. But also, I am not a boy, because I’m over 21. I will click this.”
“Thank god I’m a legal adult now. It means I can play all these awful-looking games Facebook keeps telling me about.”
“What lies BEYOND REALITY, I wonder?” (OK, even I might click that top ad just to see what in the world that game is promising).
“YES AM MAN. I PLAY.”
Feel free to share any bad game-related Facebook ads you’ve come across, too!

These aren’t gross.
Poor, cheap, badly designed? Sure.
Gross? Not at all.
I wasn’t aware that girls in bikini-equivalents are now considered “gross”. Someone better tell Victoria’s Secret.
Also, these very same ads – or ones extremely similar – appear on the Kotaku US site regularly.
Not sure what sort of mixed messages she’s trying to send.
..and further to this, the tumblr she’s using as her source has been active for a day and a half total, with less than thirty posts. Not only that, a number of them are questionable objections.
Come on, Patricia. You could be doing so much more with this.
I probably would describe them as kind of sleazy. These ads really reinforce that “fat, pervert nerd in his mother’s basement” stereotype of gamers.
Every self-respecting guy knows girls are icky and gross, and have cooties. Heck, there’s even a club.
Are you guys aware that these same ads show up on Kotaku?
Yeah kotaku is a pretty gross place. Lol
I do find them quite unnecessary, but they make the games they make and advertise them aptly. It’s no secret that sex sells.
Still, as always, Patricia seems to have a real issue with the female form, as though there aren’t countless ads for games (not necessarily marketed as WOMEN ONLY as these are) with hulking men with their shirts off.
I bet you’re the kind that gets all uppity when you can see a girls bra straps too.
All these comments are indistinguishiable from some mouth-breathing MRA forum. Go back to your tightly wound anger and fedoras, you sensitive little children.
women in bikinis!? that’s just disgusting! quick, we’d better call the Daily Telegraph and let them know about these perversions on the internet!
That one has the highest resolution and best graphics. I have to play.
Honestly i wouldn’t have a problem with these games and might actually play them if they were actually 18+. However, a couple of still images of women in bikinis sometimes being bad-asses does not make a game “adult only”. It also doesn’t make it good.
Women in bikinis are PG. And these games are terrible.
The true outrage is that these games are terrible, and the women are not naked, nor are they pivotal to the actual game.
i dont see any of them thanks to adblock
Gross? I wasn’t aware we were five year old kids who found the idea of cooties to be as bad as the plague, or that we were in the 1800’s where a bit of skin is a complete lack of moral character. They’re sleazy, sure. Overly sexual, definitely. A commentary on what “male gamers” want that makes me highly uncomfortable, of course. But a woman’s body isn’t gross. Sexuality isn’t gross. Even when objectified, it can be bad, but it’s not gross. We’re grown ass adults here, not little children who go “iiiiick” at the thought of our parents kissing (Okay, maybe we do, but they’re our PARENTS! Not real people!!!)
Ugh, I can’t believe people would play these sort of games. Lured in by a pretty face. How pathetic.
Now excuse me, I’m going to go play a REAL game, Evony.
Why don’t these people make actual porn games?
I don’t care, I use AdBlock Plus
