Hohokum came out for the various PlayStation platforms yesterday. The beautiful, weird exploration game isn’t quite like anything else on the video game landscape lately. So it’s really messed up that some folks who bought the game for the PS4 are saying that they can’t play it.
Over on Sony’s message boards and Twitter, many users are complaining that they’re getting on-screen messages with the CE-34632-8 error codes, meaning that the console can’t start the game. Fixes like rebuilding the PS4’s database and deleting and re-downloading the game are reportedly not working, either.
Anyone else not able to get Hohokum to run on their PS4? I’m getting the “app won’t start error”, reset licenses, etc. Super bummed!

Sony does appear to be aware of the problem:

It’s true that video game roll-outs large and small can be plagued with problems. But it’s especially sad to see an oddball labour of love like Hohokum — which gets a fraction of the promotion and buzz that other titles do — wind up unplayable for the people who took a leap of faith and bought the game. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story if they respond.

I tend to think it’s a bit harsh that the first poster is suggesting that he should get some sort of partial refund because one component of the cross-buy isn’t fixed instantly. It’s because I see cross buy’s additional platforms as a gift ie I am thankful that I bought Journey on PS3 and when I get a PS4, I’ll have it on PS4 for no additional charge.
Yeah, but you bought Journey for PS3 with the intention of playing it on PS3. If he was buying this with the intention of playing it on PS4 but can’t get it working there, the fact that it happens to work on Vita as well isn’t really a solution.
That’s true but it’s reasonable for him to give them a reasonable amount of time to fix this service before demanding a partial refund.
On the other hand, if he bought it today and they took his money today it’s reasonable for him to expect to be able to play it today.
Consider this likely scenario:
Customer #1 only has a Vita and intends to play on Vita. Pays full price.
Customer #2 only has a PS3 and intends to play on PS3. Pays full price.
Customer #3 has a Vita and PS4. Can play on Vita and demands partial refund.
Why should customers 1 and 2 be the ones who pay full price? Why should 2 pay more for the same experience as 3?
Would 3 expect an undoing of the reimbursement once the PS4 version is fixed?
If any of those people want a full refund then they should get one and then they can re-purchase it later once Sony get it working.
I agree with a full refund, and re-purchase later, no partial refunds. I am willing to bet the partial refund guy will just keep quiet and wait then, since he just saw an opportunity to be cheap again.
