Fallout Shelter is fun, but only for a while; you tend to hit a wall once everyone’s happy and you’ve built a lot of stuff. This would be the point most people uninstall the game, or at least ignore it, but HarrisonHutcheon had something more drastic in mind.
“So I reached a plateau in my vault’s development at 52 dwellers”, they wrote in this imgur post. “Nobody wanted for anything and everyone was happy. I mindlessly collected resources every once and a while and the vault dwellers worked blissfully away at their jobs.”
“This would not do.”
So they hatched a plan: send every single dweller out into the wasteland. Only the ones who survived the night would be allowed back in.
Some were experienced adventurers with sweet gear and decent weapons! Others were soft workers from the deep, sent to their deaths with nothing but their fists and the shirts on their back.
I won’t spoil everything for you, but hey, you can probably guess that the wasteland being the wasteland, things don’t go well for most dwellers.
How did Bethesda make a game explicitly about vaults and not make something this (or these!) — an actual vault experiment — part of the objectives?

I’ve had a population boom gone from 60 to 80 and now I’m struggling with resources.
I hit the population cap some time ago and like the article says, I’ve been bored. It’s kind of a chore to go and collect my resources, shuffle training, send people out, bring people in, delete unwanted items, etc. I have like a million caps and nothing to spend them on. I recently got a rare dweller in a lunchbox and deliberately let someone die in the wasteland to make room just so they weren’t permanent stuck queued outside the door.
Been seriously considering killing off some people and downsizing/remodelling. Or I could just stop playing.
Currently sitting on 180 dwellers. Gradually training everyone up to be full special and level 50. Once I reach that point (plus the extra 20 to reach the level cap), I’m going to send the. All out to the wasteland at once, destroy all the rooms in the vault and see which dweller lasts the longest.
lol I’ve got 110 dwellers and I’ve starting to do that too. Just training them all up full Strength, Endurance and luck, then “bye bye”
“Good luck, and god speed.”
Yeah, once you’ve made all the different room types there’s not much left to do. I figure another few weeks of logging in twice a day to move dwellers around the training rooms and I should be done.
