Just two days after Halloween, Activision’s spending a whole lot of money on candy — the publisher just announced that they have bought Candy Crush developer King for $US5.9 billion.
Said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick in a press release:
The combined revenues and profits solidify our position as the largest, most profitable standalone company in interactive entertainment. With a combined global network of more than half a billion monthly active users, our potential to reach audiences around the world on the device of their choosing enables us to deliver great games to even bigger audiences than ever before.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Ugh…just when you thought it couldn’t get worse…
You ready for Candy Crush console editions with microtransactions?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – Perk-a-Cola Crush mini game, and if you win your daily play you get 20% more XP; didn’t win? Only $2.49 to have another go!
CANDY OF DUTY!!!!
CALL OF CRUSH sounds much more EXTREME!
lol
I was hoping they were going to buy it, then sink it.
The next WoW expansion: Rise of the Candy Crushers. Now including epic candy mounts!*
*for the low low price of $29.99 per pixel!
headline might as well read “fires of hell have opened, Video games are now dead”
FFS screw this.
They are now officially worse than EA.
These two were made for each other. Might as well shovel all the shit in the same corner.
Spot on assessment 🙂
Well, that dashes my feeble hopes that Blizzard might start making real games again that aren’t well-polished knock-offs of lucrative ‘F2P’ titles.
these are not the type of games I feel our beloved acti should be pushing
Beloved? It’s not the 90’s anymore!
The best of both evils
6 BILLION!?!
1.7 more than Disney paid for Marvel.
2 more than Disney paid for Star Wars.
4 more than Microsoft paid for Minecraft.
WHERE THE FUCK DID ACTIVISION GET 6 BILLION IN CASH!?!?!
Add that to the 8.6 Billion they paid off to Vivendi in 2013… Who the hell is bankrolling them?
CoD fans?
If you buy a game from Activision it’s you who are funding them.
WoW subs
How the fuck is Candy Crush worth more than Star Wars and Marvel? These are franchises that span generations… Candy Crush is a god damn mobile… thing!!!! (can’t bring myself to call it a game)
If star wars got 1$ every time someone spouted some reference then they’d have about as much money as king does when they charge them 1$ to maybe get past one of their ‘lets make this level so hard you could only ever get by on pure luck unless you pay us’ levels or their arbitrary ‘annoy all of your friends in the vain hope 3 of them will play the game to shut you up’ roadblocks
what I’m saying is King found out a way to sell sweet nothings to people
as in they’re literally selling nothing to people
every arbitrary restriction they placed on the game is completely arbitrary & its only purpose is for you to give them money, you could remove lives and roadblocks and it’d be the same game
It’s literally drug addiction with a virtual product
even people who say they’ve never spent any money on it have spent $10+ because you don’t feel like you’re really spending money when you’re only forking over 1.10$ every time you want to keep playing
tbh it’s actually a pretty good business model (if you’re a piece of shit)
On the bright side, it’ll make it that much funnier when the Candy Crush bubble bursts and this goes down as one of the dumbest purchases possible.
