Electronic Arts is essentially skipping E3 this year, pulling out of the trade show in favour of their own events in Los Angeles and London that will be open to the public.
Rather than hosting an E3 press conference and putting up a big flashy booth for trade show attendees, the publisher will hold an event called EA Play that will run from June 12 to June 14 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. They also plan to hold a one-day event on June 12 at The Mermaid Event Centre in London. Anyone who wants to attend either event can sign up for more information on their website.
EA still plans to hold a presser, they say — and it’s likely we’ll see news and trailers for much-hyped games like Mass Effect Andromeda and the Visceral-developed Star Wars — but instead of their traditional spot on Monday afternoon before E3, they’re going to hold this press conference on Sunday, at EA Play.
“We are taking our commitment to put our players first further this year by creating a play experience built around them,” an EA representative told me this morning. “Hosting our own event allows us to connect directly with our players and create a meaningful experience for them.”
The publisher says they will be taking private meetings at E3, but they have released their booth, which has traditionally been the first thing attendees see when they walk into the South Hall. E3 will look a lot less sporty this year, that’s for sure.

Do we need to extra for premium content like cushioned seating or iced drinks?
Buy a season pass and get access to all EA shows this year!
There’s your first mistake! You’ll buy the season pass thinking you’re set, but when you get there all the content you wanted will be free, and all your season pass got you was some extra skins.
Of course they can’t actually tell you exactly what those shows are right now, but trust them it’ll be worth it, honest!
Pre-purchase now for 1 hour of early access.
“We are taking our commitment to put out our players further this year by creating a pay experience built around their wallets,” an EA representative meant to tell me this morning. “Hosting our own event allows us to connect directly with our shareholders and create a meaningful experience for their investment.”
The only ever title i am looking forward to from them will be the new Dead Space.
Hey everyone remember when Nintwndo pulled out of E3 and everyone said it was a mistake?
