One of the features that came with the big “Foundation” update for No Man’s Sky was the ability to write short notes that could be discovered by other players. While many have sent words into the abyss, only a lucky few have managed to find messages from other people thus far.
One of the first documented messages comes from Mikefamey, pictured above. That’s it. “Boo.” It’s brief, yet somehow appropriate following the controversy about the inability to find other players in No Man’s Sky. Boo: There’s life out there after all.
A few other people on Reddit have shared the messages they have encountered, and while some are mostly functional (“find thing at x place!”), some people are remembering to have some fun with it, too:
Image source: itsnotaboutslots. It reads, “Everyone join the party!”
If you’re hoping to find messages, MikeFamey suggests going to the centre, where there’s a higher chance of finding other people. “Find somebody’s system, through the scan button in the Galactic Map,” MikeFamey suggests. “Message [the player] and ask if they are still there. If they are, go to the system… [and] place a communications station.”
The other player should be able to see your station on their own map. From there it’s just a matter of putting a message in. It’s not a perfect system — there’s always a chance it won’t work if you try it — but that’s how MikeFamey was able to communicate with another player. Neat, huh?

But you still can’t see other players, right?
The universe is huge, how many people have even been in a position where they could potentially see another player?
Two?
Four maybe?
I know this is a bugbear with people, but really, with a place this vast it makes basically no difference whether you can see another player or not.
Many players who were pissed seem to disagree. Besides the universe is obviously very vast, but ( I havent played the game) I assume your space ship is very quick and capable of some kind of warp travel. Also dont forget that narrowing down the vast universe to another players location is made much less hard because players can talk too each other outside of NMS.
Elite Dangerous is equally as huge, If not more. Yet you still run into players regularly.
Maybe that’s part of the twist in the game. Maybe we’re all ghosts, and we need some snot-nosed kid to make an appearance and say “I see dead people”.
Why do they look like the spheres from GlaDOS?
Would have to go back and start a game again, but it was either NMS or some other real recent game where the computer voice (at least in the initial tutorial type portion) also sounded a lot like GlaDOS.
Maybe its where Portal ended up in a few hundred/thousand years…
I was thinking the same thing. They look practically identical, just with a paint job. What is up with that?
So basically, message someone through PSN or steam then go into the game and communicate wayyy less efficiently using an in game gimmick?
I understand the appeal with randomly finding communications from other players, but if your using them to actually have a conversation why not just chat using your platforms messaging system?
the point is not for live communication.
its more like discovering a relic or the way dark souls did it i guess.
“Quick! Leave before they find y……”
What was the final verdict on ‘being able to see other players’ ? Total lie or kind of bulls##t ?
See my reply to the first post ;^)
Did he ever say clearly that you would see other players, or was that just the implied situation? People make massive leaps of faith, and assume things never actually said, and the closest I recall to an answer was a one word response in a rapid fire question interview.
Something like “will there be multiplayer?” *pause* “yes”. Multiplayer can mean a LOT of different things, and people made the assumption it was closer to WoW (where you group) than the messages of Dark Souls (where you see others legacy).
And it was said repeatedly after that interview that if you expected a WoW type interaction, this wasnt the game for you. For me, people focus on an outdated comment, and choose to ignore what was said after, which was out in the public space. Their mistake as much as the developer and Sony.
So it comes down to where you stood in the first place. If you were outraged that there wasnt multiplayer, nothings changed.
The message found reads; “Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea:
“He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the Holy Grail in the Castle of Aaargh….”
