One of the best board games of the last couple of years, Codenames is getting a makeover courtesy of Disney, Pixar and Marvel.
In a media blast early this morning, USAopoly announced that it would release Marvel, Pixar and Disney-inspired versions of the tabletop word game later this year. They’ll officially be termed Codenames Disney Family Edition and Codenames Marvel Edition, with the former featuring “characters and locations” from the Disney and Pixar films over the last nine decades.
Codenames Marvel Edition, according to the release, will be “more of a traditional party game” while still incorporating characters from Spider-Man, Marvel’s Avengers and Doctor Strange. Both new versions of the game will ship this autumn and “will be sold exclusively in North America”, retailing for $US24.95. (It’s probably likely that some retailers will ship internationally, though.)
It also sounds like both games will be a combination of the original Codenames and Codenames Pictures, although fans of the original will probably want to stick to Marvel Edition. We’ll keep you posted if either version makes its way down under.
