Australia has a long, proud history of making video games extending back to the (figurative) dawn of time. But while plenty of gamers will remember the days of Shane Warne Cricket and our contributions to much more serious genres (like Dark Reign and Krush, Kill N Destroy), contributions over the last couple of years are sometimes forgotten.
So to help celebrate our national day of not being at work and generally overeating, here's a look at 7 of the best Australian games of recent times.
Australian Game Developers Matt Trobbiani and Chris Johnson are best friends. They do everything together. They grew up in Adelaide together. They did a Computer Science degree together. They made video games together, released video games together. But when Matt released Hacknet and Chris Johnson released Expand, everything changed. One game made its creator rich, the other sent its creator broke. Both have to live with the consequences.
Steam's Autumn sales -- even though it started in the Australian spring, and it's technically summer now -- are usually smaller than their mid-year efforts and the shenanigans that ensue right around Christmas. But that doesn't mean there aren't some good deals to be had or cheap games to purchase immediately prior to Christmas. But if you're going to take the plunge in the current sale, you only have until 10:00AM PST. That's 5:00 AM tomorrow morning, or 2:00 AM if you live in Perth.
