Last night, I finished The Missing. My initial impression of the game was that it’s a sweet but extremely bloody puzzle-platformer, peppered with queer overtones. As I pressed forward, I found a game that was transgressive and shockingly frank in talking about LGTBQA+ issues. It’s been on my mind all morning.

We recently finished playing Deadly Premonition on Kotaku's Twitch channel. In Deadly Premonition, FBI detective Francis York Morgan tries to find the murderer behind a series of serial killings in the town of Greenvale. Greenvale is full of colourful residents with daily schedules and humanising side-stories. Its villains are complicated and human, but once their villany is revealed, the game trades their complexity for cliches and tropes.
I've been playing through Deadly Premonition and Binary Domain on Kotaku's Twitch channel. One is an offbeat crime thriller and the other is a clumsy shooter about robots. They're pure pulp. They're also two of the best games I've ever played.
